So I have an BMW 528i 1999 and just replaced the oil filter housing gasket to solve a leak issue which I'm thrilled that it was that. Now I took apart the Fan clutch, fan shroud, the air Intake, AC Belt, Serpentine Belt, Alternator and Power steering reservoir to access the Oil Filter Housing Gasket. I put everything back together as it was, and basically anti seized every single screw I used so if I had to take it out next time it wouldn't be a PITA. Now putting back the alternator was also a PITA. It would barely fit so I wiggled the bottom hole in first until I felt the screw go in and then went ahead and put the top screw in with the pulley.
Upon checking the serpentine belt, fan clutch and AC belt, it seems like everything is put back right as the belt thread was correct and I looked up the AC belt and Serpentine Belt diagram. However upon inspecting the "non alternator pulley/ aka the top bolt for the alternator, I see that it does not match the thread as in the bolt is a little off. Would this be the reason that it is squealing? I will be taking apart everything again to inspect this more throughly tomorrow. But I just wanted to know if maybe the squealing would be such a coincidence that suddenly something else stopped working. I checked the threads of the belts and they seem fine.
This car is at 98,000 miles.
Thanks

The idler pulley has a notch in the back side of it.
Not at all man, you were in fact smart to just ask. Dumber to wrestle with something stupid for hours or days before mentioning it and finding out its some trick or detail somebody could have sorted ya out on in a second! (that's what I usually do...)

Haha thanks I actually took the fan out, removed the shroud and belts. I took the bolt halfway out with the idle pulley and put it back in. Now the sound has decreased to a small Squeal, nothing I can hear outside the engine cover so I guess I will just deal with it....
