Hi everyone. I am new to this forum.
My wife really wants a z4 and we had pretty well made up our minds to get one with a folding steel roof. 2009 or 2010. With a 6 speed manual gearbox.
My big concern is problems with the reverse synchro. The fault being not able to get into reverse.
Can anyone tell me the years of manufacture to avoid this problem. Or have they always suffered from this.
Many thanks

Settle for a Coupe, less problems.
Thank you for your reply.
I simply wanted to understand what years of manufacture did BMW manual gearbox suffer from the "can't select reverse" problem.
I have not heard of this issue, but that gearbox is shared across multiple platforms - looking up more info on the more common models with that gearbox (3 series, 1 series, etc) may give more/better information
There was no coupe variant of the E89 Z4 - they only came as folding hardtop convertibles.

Duh, correct, the folding hardtop version was BMWs attempt at satisfying both the coupe and convertible crowd, by combining both attributes into one vehicle.
BimmerBreaker, thanks for refreshing my senile memory.
I've been shopping around and found the hard top to be a better choice for me. Found a 2013 35i with MSport Package. Still in negotiation after we found some issue during inspection. Here's me hoping to jump in the Z4 ownership!
