The Good:
A couple days ago a great deal fell in my lap so I ran with it. I've been in the market for a E36 or E46 M3 since January and every one I looked at had major red flags that turned me away but I was still dead set on getting one. Until a couple days ago, I saw a E92 335i that was going to be run in a local auction that I frequent. All I knew while heading there was that the car had 1-owner, 11 service records on the carfax at a dealer here in SoCal and 67k on the odometer. Long story short I ended up being the winning bidder and got the car for at a steal. Here is the icing on the cake that made me jump for this car, the previous owner cared enough include a binder with the car that contains everything single receipt and invoice for work done (down to the window tints), emails between him and BMW while the car was in production and transit, driver reviews/newspaper articles and all original paperwork from the time of purchase. Aesthetically it wasn't perfect but its 10 years old, it's fine.
The Bad:
After having the car towed to my shop the MIL came on for the high pressure fuel pump ($700 wholesale!!!), found out it was a common issue so no biggie cant blame the PO.
Huge leak coming from valve cover near firewall.
Needs new brakes, rotors and tires all around. Again no biggie because it gives me a reason to install my preferred parts.
1 long scratch on passenger side and a few dings that cannot come out with PDR.
Needs a good detail.
Wheels are not my style but they're solid with only one having curb rash.
My boss, our master tech, is currently dissembling to replace the fuel pump.
I'm very excited for this car coming from a 2001 330i 5-speed. Both for the step up in power and because after 5 years the 330i was getting a bit old.
Pics to come and I plan on using this thread to keep a log of what is done to the car. Happy to be part of the community and look forward to having a ton of fun with this car.
Congrats on the car and post some pics. I would love to get into a 335i, but I just don't have the nuts to take a chance turbo reliability. Don't know enough about 'em to keep 'em running.
congrats!
You high pressure fuel pump may be covered by the 10year 120k mileage warranty. Mine was replaced along with some injectors, I have a 08 w/ 94k miles.
