    2007 530xi won't start - should I try DIY?

I tried starting my car two days ago and it just wouldn't start. It turned on and revved up like it started but then just died immediately - it wasn't chocking or anything and died so quietly I honestly thought the car was on. I noticed it turned off when I tried going into drive.

I tried to to start the car up again and the same thing happened. No chocking or anything. It just revved up like normal then died off instead of starting up. I don't know why but I tried starting a few times until it worked, maybe on the fifth attempt.

I recently bought Carly so I shipped it out and got two codes for the engine/motor: 2A37 & 2A47 (I'll post full info at bottom in case it's useful).

Look like I need an eccentric shaft sensor. Is this right or should I look into something else? I need new plugs and coils anyway so I was thinking I could do it all at once, or is it annoying and I should let an Indy do it?

I couldn't find any DIY online for the E60, but I see one for the E90.

Edit: 99k miles on the car and no mods, if that matters. I turned the car on the next day and I noticed it chocking. The first time it just died but yesterday it was chocking and tried starting. I got it to start after a few attempts but while I was driving the engine was noticibly loud as when before I couldn't even hear my engine inside the car - I need an oil change so maybe that's why? I also noticed that the car wasn't changing gears properly and revved high before swapping gears.

Hello - check out the below link to one of our site's DIYs, really helpful guide to replacing the plugs and coils. A new sensor is likely needed as well.

What about the eccentric shaft sensor?
