From 330i to 128i??

I've a 2002 E46 330i - had it for 18months. Did a lot of maintenance work including full cooling system overhaul, fuel pump, brakes/rotors, pulleys etc. It drives amazing for a 16 yr old car. Wondering selling this and getting a 2009 128i coupe is a good move. Saw one locally with 167,000 kms (not miles) for about CAD$8000. My 330i only has about 180000kms.
Is this worth considering? Compared to 330, I assume E82s are more expensive to maintain?

Anu suggestions?

The 1 series is a great car ( I have a 135i) and the NA motor in the 128i is a great setup. I don't think that the cost of maintenance will increase for you, maybe a very very minor bump, but nothing concerning. Are you looking for a standard daily driver or something that you can also work on and tune?

I moved from a e36 to the 128! I'd say the maintenance is about the same. But it's the new electronics you have to worry about. More gadgets =more problems. Once you do the common mods, this car outperforms the older cars and has a much nicer interior.

+1 I agree that the electronics can go sour - I've had very minor issues with my 135i, faulty fuses and such. Great motor though

I went from an E36 M3 which was a maintenance nightmare to a 128i. I had the 128i for a year and it had 0 issues. Hell of a lot of fun too.
