I was wondering if any one could give a idea on what a Imola 740i sport are worth these days .100k with black interior and loaded w all options minus EDC .Far as condition very clean w no rust interior appears new looking meaning no wear on bolsters . I sure the color brings a premium since not as many around .Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Are you sure there's no rust at all? Seems rather unlikely in Michigan, unless it's a car from the south that has lived in a garage its whole life. Maintenance records will generally set the price— if there are no maintenance records at 100k then you can expect to replace the whole cooling system now and then chain guides around 150k miles. If there are maintenance records then that pushes the price up a bit. I wouldn't pay more than $6000 though, there are so many E38's out there.

Car is out of state and the seller asking somewhere in the 11k range .plenty of maintenance records with detailed pics of vehicle.

No timing chain or guides have been done since his ownership .
I'm in Michigan but my 750 has only been here like 5 years. Texas and florida before that. Most E38's that have spent their lives here are a bit rusty but most of their owners have 4 car heated garages and unlimited car wash passes. The Michigan individual I parted that spent half it's life in Montreal and the other half in Michigan was very rusty!

11k is ridiculous, even if the car is perfect with perfect maintenance records. It's not some low mileage unicorn either— heck, Brandon (RVAE34) got a 37k mile 01 740i for only $7k.
Any E38 you can buy will need some work either way, that's just the nature of these cars.

I think it's amazing we can purchase these cars for sub $4k with 100k miles. They are one of the best looking BMW's ever created in my book and such a pleasure to drive.
Sure, when you do buy one you'll have to repair a few things on them, but even putting $2k-$4k into one and you're still under $8k total for a timeless classic. I've had countless people come up to me at work and ask me about my 2000 740il. When I tell them I bought it for $3700 they are shocked. But I also tell them I do my own work and wouldn't have bought if I didn't know how to work on it. That's an important part of the equation too. If you are taking these 16-21 year old cars to a mechanic it's going to hurt your wallet. By working on it myself, I can purchase OEM parts and not feel bad at all.
I'm also glad we have this forum and super people that help out for all problems encountered on these cars. It's great so many people are passionate about the E38.
That being said, I have a 65 Mustang that sits next to it and she is totally jealous. The inside door handle spring broke on the Mustang the same day I parked the 740iL next to her. Trying to tell me something?

realistically what should someone pay for one than . Any one out there what to sell the imola ?
Thats not right to compare what Brandon bought and how much he paid for what he bought,
cars and prices like B got are once in a lifetime opportunitys, or you would have been driving one 40 k miles e38/39 for yourself. But you got 200000 miles M5 for the same price instead... just saying

I paid $8k for mine with 101k miles, only thing that mine was Dinan7, and I still think I got lucky

Your current situation is not your final destination
I, uh, beg to differ.

That said, no guides/VANOS is a little sketchy.
Your M5 was a lot closer to 200k than mine was. Officially mine was around 100k miles for $7k— the cluster and DME both said 100k miles so unless it was tampered with by some professional I just went with the mileage that was on the cluster. In any case, whether it had 100k miles or the supposed 170k miles, a $7k M5 is still way more bang for the buck than a low mileage E38, just sayin'. I have no regrets, especially considering the extremely good profit I made on that M5 when I sold it.

BAT is just like EAG in that it's not representative of actual market values. Both businesses cater to people with more money than common sense. Good for them, but that doesn't mean that a 2001 740il with 100k+ miles is worth a penny over $7k in the real world. That being said, if I ever need to sell one of my cars you bet I'm gonna take advantage of BAT.

or when u sell it , sell it on BAT lol seems e38s have been selling really high there recently...
They have an online form and it will cost you $250 to list plus a success fee (percentage of final selling price) and yes, you can put a reserve on it.
The way I look at it, it is the best $250 you can spend for advertising. Especially if you post receipts with your name and contact info on them.

It's a red e38, so what? It won't matter if you buy it. In your town, it's just another e38. Color does not make any car, well, maybe a Ferrari, but I would buy it based on history. They are great cars, btw.
Lets get the party started before it's my bedtime.
Ok, been over this so many times, but... KBB is low for '01 short Sports. By about $3k on average. If you can find an '01 short Sport with TCGs done for under $8500, buy it. I did. And yes, Imola tends to go for slightly more than other colors (other than the ultra rare Estoril cars). Under 100k miles, if you get it for under $10k, you're doing good. I almost bought RAVE34's old Estoril car for $9k and it was worth it as the current owner knows.
