Door lock problems after window regulator replaced

We have a 2006 BMW X5. After getting the window regulator replaced on our front passenger door by a mechanic that lock and window are not functioning properly except manually. We are able to control all three other doors and locks from the main console and drivers side controls. We are also able to operate all three of the doors with the key fob. From the front passenger door controls we are now able to operate the window up and down when the car is totally off, which makes no sense. We know that the mechanic did not connect something. He is willing to go back and retrace his steps. Can you help us?

    Welcome to the forum.

I'm only guessing, but it would seem that maybe you went to a generic mechanic, rather than a BMW / Euro specialist shop?

I wish I could tell you what's unplugged, or malfunctioning. Maybe the guy manually worked the door lock, in some way that put it out of sync with the electronic system? I cannot even imagine what's causing the window to work from just one switch, and when the car's off, except if that only happens when you've just shut off the key, and the door has not yet been opened.

But your answer is this: Take the car to a BMW specialist shop. Your vehicle is beyond the abilities of a generic shop.

MAYBE the issues can be corrected, by going in and connecting linkages or plugs that weren't done correctly. Maybe the lock wiring was routed improperly, in the path of the window regulator.....and moving the window ripped the wires out of the lock actuator.....

But , you shouldn't have to be chasing this yourself, on a forum. You paid a shop to do what's really a simple job....if you know what you're doing. I'm surprised you don't have an airbag warning light, too. For instance, a BMW tech would know that the plastic clip which holds an X5 window to the regulator needs to be changed, and may be broken. And you don't turn on the ignition with the airbag unplugged.....and don't lock or unlock the car electrically, when one of the actuators is disconnected....and that vapor barrier in the door is highly fragile, and a PITA, and if you rip it, the car will start leaking water into the interior.....and.....and....

You need to find a BMW / Euro shop. At this point, your car likely needs to have a good conversation with ISTA, which is BMW's diagnostic and programming computer system. Good BMW shops, including independents, have this, or another top-quality BMW specific computer
