Question 1) why when I go to realOEM and look at the coolant hoses section, there are 6 parts diagrams? Looks like it could be the top middle or possibly the bottom left. How do I know which is correct?
My car is 2006 330XI and once I got it up on a lift I noticed the fluid leaking where the ~1" hose comes from the thermostat housing goes across the bottom and connects to the tranny cooler. Do I have to replace the hose assembly? do I need to replace the transmission cooler too? Side note, on track days the transmission over heat light comes on. So I want to fix that too.
Any help would be Greatly Appreciated!!
Thanks!
Brian.
The diagrams are completely ridiculous but if for instance you were to look at the part number for the upper radiator hose you might find out each diagram has the same part number. Some hoses could be different if the car was a std trans or auto trans for example.
When you search for parts on realOEM, use your VIN number. That narrows things down based on date the car was manufactured.
As for your transmission overheating, that could be a couple of things, including the tranny needing a service.
Call a local foreign auto parts place with your year make and model, and tell them which hose it is, and they can walk you through it. then buy the part from them. shop locally sometimes.
I have a place near me that I do business with and they are always very helpful. I do go out of my way to get there, but it is worth it to me if I am not sure about ordering certain parts online.
also, they are within just a few dollars of the cheapest parts I can find online once you include shipping, ect. besides, once in a while I get free t shirts or hats...

Thanks for all the advice!
