Hello. New to the forum. I have a 2011 550i GT xDrive. I bought it used from an import dealer. Two months in, the steering is getting tight so I added the CHF and it seemed fine.
Fast forward to the first "free" oil change and they tell me I have an oil leak. Really? No drips in my garage... until I got home that day when a few drops started to show. Sounded like they created the leak to me.
One day after a long drive, I see the CHFdumped. Must have been building up in the boot. I take it in to the them to look at and they say it will be $5000 to fix both leaks.
This is my first BMW and wondering if this sounds right? I'm planning to take it elsewhere for a second opinion but wanted to get some feedback before going.
Thanks!

Modern BMW's use CHF11S are the hydraulic fluid for the steering system. If you filled it with ATF when CHF11S is spec'd that is undoubtedly part of the problem. Dealer isn't going to rebuild a rack, only replace it as a complete unit. The rack is ~$3k new, plus installation and alignment.

CHF, yes. Sorry. At $25 a quart, hard to forget.
But a replaced rack is a given, I guess? What am I seeing here for $755? Not the same?

Glad to hear it wasn't ATF.
No shop worth its salt will install a no name reman rack from the internet, much less would a dealer. Genuine OE BMW parts, new in box, with a real warranty.
