The main relay in there right now is 4-pin, light green, number 61368366600. Same as the fuel pump relay, blower motor, horn, rear defroster, aux fan low, and low-beams.
Both realoem and etk say -600 was only used on the E38. Hmm, ok...
New part number for all those other relays is 61368373700. Also light green. 5-pin, but the schematic is the same as for -600 except there's a duplicate 87 output. That's cool, the pin will go unused.
Logic says -700 should replace the main relay too. But realoem/etk say the current part number is 61366915327, which is sky blue. It's 4-pin but the schematic is different: there's a duplicate 87 output and only 1 input. Just pin 30, no pin 86, both of which are hot-at-all-times with battery voltage. Yet the schematic still makes sense: pin 30 provides the power input as normal, but it can be grounded by pin 85 so it also provides the switch input. So the DME socket is the only one in which the -327 relay would work.
And is there any reason to use the unusual -327 relay instead of the more standard light green -700?
For future testing it's more convenient to be able to swap around relays, so that's a vote for the -700.
And -327 leaves a hot-at-all-times terminal unplugged. Is that bad? Maybe another vote for -700.
Is there something specific about -327 that makes it better for the DME?
I probably have this relay in a parts car if you need one.
