HI,
after searching I'm confused, what cable do I need to get to be able to use ISTA-P with a 2006 BMW 760Li ❔
I can use ISTA-D with a K+Dcan cable no problem but i can't get ISTA-P to connect ( nothing shows up in connection list).

For a 2006, you need pin 7&8 bridged on your K+DCAN.

For what you need ista-p?

ISTA-P requires an ICOM. That is the only interface that will work with ISTA-P. You can use an emulator with a K+DCAN cable, but I strongly discourage this.
I want to retrofit the aux port on the radio and upgrade software
I ran network tool and tried ISTA-P loader ver. 4.9 that came with the download but it still doesn't work.

This is the cable I'm currently using
Look at this on eBay

Unfortunately SSS program is too old to read my car.
Is this what I need to get?

Is it necessary to get the whole kit?
In the long term I want to retrofit:
power folding mirrors
Active cruise control
Front and rear cameras

For coding, you can get away with a cable like you have. For upgrading I-level or flashing, you really need the ICOM or you'll brick the DME or modules on the fiber optic bus. Generally you won't notice much from updating software, unless it's necessary for an option you want to add. You can most likely code the options manually with NCS Expert and your current cable. ISTA-P can do all the work for you, but it's a far larger program and it requires an ICOM. If you are willing to spend the money, the ICOM is great. Since I bought one, I almost exclusively use that over my K+DCAN or bluetooth. The one you listed seems good, just confirm with the seller that it has a heatsink, it's important. Bear in mind that flashing or prolonged coding will require a strong 12v power supply, more than 30 amps. I built mine from a 1570 watt server power supply for around $20. I'm happy to provide details on the power supply if you want. Make sure everything is on point before using ISTA-P to prevent costly issues.
Ok thanks for the info I think I'm going to invest in the ICOM, I have some old blade servers I can take a power supply from.
I managed to get the D+kcan cable to work by deleting everything and starting over, unfortunately ISTA wants to update my software to do any kind of retrofit, I didn't even see the options for the AUX port or Power folding mirrors, and I can't add the "+NAUX" option to my VO via NCSEXPERT, so maybe I do need to upgrade the software after all, either way i think it's using the ICOM is just simpler and safest way if I'm gonna be messing with the car.
