Well, here we go again...

Thought I would post about my newest find and ask for help, again.

As of yesterday, I am the (proud?) owner of a 1996 740iLA, 164K miles.

The good:
Transmission (Hallelujah!)
Paint
Body (Other than being out in the sun too much)
Tires (New)
Wheels (Bayern)

The Bad:
Runs rough
Suspension
Pixels
Traction control

That's the obvious stuff. I'm planning on running codes today, if it decides not to rain. I'm still up in the air about good/bad deal. It set me back $600 plus $67 dollars for the trailer, so even if it turns out to be a dog, I should be able to part it for that much (I hope).

Anyway, I obviously have a disease there is no cure for as this is BMW number 8. Is there a "BMW Anonymous"?

I mean, you got a running E38 with decent paint for only $600... I'd say you did pretty well. The engine in that should be relatively easy to troubleshoot, it's all cable-driven and doesn't have Vanos since it's the earlier M62. Your rough engine might just be because of a bad/dirty ICV, that's a common issue with the M62.

Thank you gentlemen. It seemed like a good buy, but then you never really know until you live with them a while. They're kind of like women in that respect.
The seller just put new tires on it for $800. When It started to run rough, he threw up his hands and decided that he had had enough, so he was asking $800 which is what got my attention, I just can't pay asking price, so I offered $500 and he countered at $600, done. I kind of fell into it. I think it was one of those "meant to be" moments. Weird how that works...

Ran the codes today, some interesting results. I will do separate posts for those. Should be some thought provoking issues.

I also need to take traction control off the "bad" list. The button was pushed in...

Excellent catch!!! It almost seems like we're praying on people's (pick one) ignorance, laziness, foolishness, stupidity or just plain "give up", but that's life as they say. I'm sure there are times I have been the guy on the other end, but I'm not aware of it, either by choice or by "ignorance is bliss"ness.

By the way, did you catch the post about a possible DME replace on this car? ["Can Someone, Anyone Explain This"?]
