Angry Quick end to long ownership, Total Loss

    Mondays come hard.

I am just glad I wasn't on my bike from the other thread I have up or else I probably wouldn't be typing this.

I was almost at a full stop when the lady behind me decided she had more pressing matters than driving and impacted me at 35mph, not massive speed but a full size mini-van carries some weight behind it. Despite standing on the brakes I impacted the car in front of me causing minor cosmetic damage, but smashed their gas tank and bent their right rear wheel well.

Lady in the mini-van had a crack front bumper and drove away after the report was taken as we both sat and waited for a truck to come get our cars.

I can't wait to have the insurance company call me and tell me they will give me $1000 dollars for my car.

Damn, glad you are okay. Looks like the car might be repairable, but perhaps not at a price that is realistic for the insurance company. Hope all works for you.

Your kidneys made a remarkable impression on the car in front of you!

Wow I did not notice the impressions from the kidneys, that is no joke.

It makes more sense with the frame damage she suffered underneath the car, my front bumper hit the hell out of it

I can't see the pics, but it sounds very similar to what happen to me last fall. The Jeep behind me stopped, but the nimrod behind him didn't. They totaled the car, but gave me $8k for it. (1999 2.3 with 68k miles)

    good luck...

Sorry for your loss Bear. A friend of mine had a similar issue several years ago. His trunk was about half its original size and the front was pushed into the engine. He was able to upgrade to 2001.

I can't see the photos either. Just a dash where the pictures should be.

posted off of Google Photos looks like bimmerforums blocks my links for some reason, no idea

I am lucky enough to work in the car industry and have access to all the auctions across the US, unfortunately there is only one measly 1998 Z3M out there that needs a lot of loving and is black which I dislike.

I had the same issue with trying to post photos from Google. It seems the url is longer than the forum software will allow. You can just post them from your computer by clicking on the "insert image" icon.

I'm guessing you know about the buyers guide, but here is a link if you don't - http://www.mroadsterbuyersguide.com/listings

Whoa that is a bad Monday. So sorry to see this. At least you're ok, although you should get some medical attention--if you haven't already: 1, because you never know, and 2, it might provide a little leverage with the ins. co. Anyway, my condolences.

Images aren't loading for me either, I'd attempt to fix them but even going directly to the URL's they won't load for me.

Glad you are ok, hope your next Z3 can fill the whole this one leaves... upgrading to an M is certainly a silver lining...

Hey Bear, if you're serious about wanting an ///M, I've got a '99 M Roadster in my stable that needs a new home. PM me and I'll send the details--you may recall the thread I ran on building it years ago here, my friend is dying and the car just sits now (heated dry storage). Its probably got a couple of thousand miles or so on it since the build and is bone stock with a hard top. I haven't advertised it because I will only let it go to the right person, but I think you fit that bill. Anyway, just a thought.

That's such a sad story- the man who love his car so much but gotten too sick to drive it. Lets pray they have turbo Z-3 M 's in heaven ! maybe even a z8!
Bear- Just one of those moments you wish you were driving the 8000lb F-350 with an extended hitch sticking out the back. Probably different result- :-)
Might have had to repaint the hitch with some fresh rustolum..... once the minivan was pried from around it--- But Murphys law being what it is--

    I greatly appreciate the offer.

With how much I love the Z3 I'm just not sure if I can get back into one right now.

I am keeping my car and putting it in storage, I refuse to let it go to a salvage auction.

Looking at the market, at least for me, I just think the Z3s are bringing more money than I am willing to spend right now. There are a few auctions running this week with M3s or a 750il that peeked my interest but I just don't know yet.

The insurance company offered me far more than I ever anticipated them and even way above my bottom dollar, so that is no issue.

So sad, people can't drive. Wonder if texting or watching youtube was involved.. or is that only in Houston?

There are 2 low priced, but high mileage silver M Roadsters on the Charlotte NC Craigslist. I know it's a long way from Kansas, but could also be an adventure.

Sorry about your car, that sucks.

She admitted to being distracted had three kids in the van. I highly doubt after her encounter with me she will ever do that again.

I totaled and had mine rebuilt, but that was a 5 mph impact on one front corner. I still really hate insurance after having them drag their feet getting the estimate and not answering my calls. The last person I dealt with and my agent were very nice and completely fine, though.
