Keep Senior Drivers on the Road Safe: Drive Reliable Cars Dependable cars can help elderly drivers stay safe while on the road. As people age, physical and mental changes occur. When your senses degrade enough you just need to get off the road. No amount of car maintenance will fix that.

I do have to agree, though I don't wish to...

The fact is, people below a certain age can not obtain their driver's license because they do not have the mental (and somewhat, physical) capacity to be a proficient driver. As people age, their mental and physical well-being deteriorates - as such I think the best scenario would be one where past a certain age you have to re-take the driver's exam every few years. That way those who have the capability to still drive can do so, but those who no longer have the necessary skills to drive do not endanger those around them.

I guess I'm more sensitive to the issue. 2 yrs ago I lost a close friend when an elderly man just turned in front of all oncoming traffic. My friend was riding his new R1 in full leathers and armor at 45MPH confirmed by the traffic cams on his way home from work. Really tragic and silly to happen.
