    Diff Swap queston

    I have been told by a few people that if i Swap the diff on my 540 to a different gear ratio i wont have to reprogram my speedometer because it uses the ABS sensor to sense speed, is this true? i remain spectical.

    This isn't entirely true. If you go with a 3.15 ratio for example, you will lose cruise control at certain speeds unless you load one of TerraPhantm's modified DME tunes for 540i/6 that fix it. The speed info does come from ABS sensors, but engine speed vs wheel speed does change and the range set in the DME doesn't fit within what it is expecting for cruise control. On auto cars, you could get a 3.15 stock from BMW, so they don't have the issue, but no 540i/6 came with a 3.15 from the factory. If you choose a different ratio than 3.15, you might need to get in touch with TerraPhantm directly to see if he can make you a custom DME tune that will work with the ratio you pick.
