Hey guys, my 81 6er needs some new speakers, any recommendations? The car currently has a JVC head unit. I just want some basic clean sounding speakers.
thanks:
To me, most important is what exhaust you are running and are your door seals intact. The best system cannot outdo an S38 (and the S38 is my music). There are posts on this which you should search for and I think you will see that there are many recommendations, ie it turns out to be a personal choice. This all said, I believe many favor Infinity Reference, Polk and JL.

+1 Polk
My exhaust is stock, but does have a nice tone to it, my door seals to the most part are good, with exception to the driver side, it has a slight whistle tone. Thank you for the recommendation for Polk an JL. I know nothing about speakers, as ive never been a speaker/music type of guy while driving, i like to hear the car/gears/exhaust instead. What size do i need? i think i read somewhere a 4x6? How do i know if the plugs will work?

4x6 front, 6x9 rear.
Easy swap. Make sure fronts are not too deep (pull themoriginals and check dimensions before you buy) otherwise speaker cover will not fit and/or glove box may get hung up when you try to open it.

polk and audison are great brands
Only issue it seems is the backing magnet that might get in the way up front by
the foot wells. I just need to find one that fits
I recently installed the Pioneer TS-A460R 3-way 4x6 speakers in my front with the original grills with no problems. Best Buy about $60. They come with wire with the connectors .

Is the speaker fitment for an '81 633 different from an '85 635? According to Crutchfield the only speakers that fit my car are RetroSound R-463N. I purchased a set; they fit OK in the front kick panels and rear pods but I'm not too happy with their apparent quality or sound. I'd like to upgrade to something like the Pioneer TS-A4676R's if they fit without any modifications, but from the specs it looks like they're too deep. On my car there's very limited space for decent sized magnets in both front and rear.
Many of the new speakers don't fit due to the size of the magnet. My solution was to enlarge the hole the magnet fits into. I also have the tweeters which stick out a bit to far. Solution was to rake the grilles to a plastic shop and have a 1/4" piece added on. For $15 it came out perfect and is unnoticeable
