My '97 840Ci US model (and I assume all e31's) has a grab handle above the passenger (right side) window. I have a spare grab handle and would love to have one above the driver's door as well.
I assume the right side steering cars have one above the left door, so my question to anyone who has had the headliner out and replaced it: Do the US models by chance have mounting brackets to receive the screws and pegs of the grab handles above the left door? Don't want to poke holes in the relatively new headliner on this car to find out!!
Thanks for any input - yes or no!

Fairly cave certain they have the holes for the sheet metal screws present, but you will have to cut the headliner board in order to mount them, which is best done with the board out of the car, since you can't see the mounting holes.
Just leave it alone.
I currently have a headliner out of an 850, and the mounting points are identical on both sides. I don't know why you would need a driver side "oh-shit handle", since you have a steering wheel right there in front of you to hang on to.

Thank you very much for that information. I'd guess I can just do an exact measurement and get the location of the screw and peg holes. Really appreciate your information.
Different reason than hanging onto the steering wheel!! At age 80, I'm looking to the future, and getting in and out isn't going to get any easier. More difficult now than when I was 60!!!

Gary, at 80, nothing wrong with your keen analytical mind.
Gary, I saw an item yesterday at Menards called the car cane. It is also listed it on Amazon for 19.99. If it would work for you it would be a whole lot easier.
Thanks rjbaren. Don't need that yet, don't even need the 'grabber', but planning for the future, so I picked up a spare when I saw a perfect one for just a few bucks - betting that the receptors were in place.
