since this has branched off into a "E38 market value" thread, in two days we'll know what a two-owner, 38k mile '01 sport (some nice recent maintenance, but on older tires and with a few exterior blemishes - seller should have spent a couple hundred on paintless dent removal and better pix) is worth.

~10 bidders have already raised their paddle above $8k, it's now at $10,770 (+5% buyer's commission).

I'll guess $15k final hammer price, including commission.

Screw selling it before or after the guides are repaired and KEEP IT. It's in good hands already apparently based on your pictures, and it is a beautiful car.

Thank you everyone for your comments and suggestions. Here is a little back story on the car. I bought it a couple of years ago from the second owner, which was the brother of the original owner that had IRS issues so a few assets changed names. I bought the car with 74k miles and I received 4 keys , manuals and paperwork but sadly no service records. The car was not driven daily according to the person that sold it to me and I believe it judging from his house. This is the car I have always wanted and since it only had 74k I decided to purchase. I own another car so the BMW was driven about 3 times per week. Ironically the timing guides went out a week after I had changed the oil, state inspection and registration. There is a guy on here that made the comment that he doesn't believe the car was turned off right away after the guides went out...well if you look at the inspection miles and the current miles you would see I am telling the truth. Anyway, I love the car and I love the forum... lots of knowledge but I feel that I am done enjoying the car and I refuse to let it sit in the garage rotting away. I will sell it sell it sooner or later and I just hope I get a good buyer.

Car with bad guides is hard to sell and most of them no matter the mileage and how clean usually go for around 1000-1500... If you fix it it you're better off...

I wouldn't pay more than $500 in any shape over here, considering the amount of cars out there.
