Thank you ... have you sold your car?[/QUOTE]
No I still have it. Daily driven. It's at a friend's house right now (uber home last night), so I can't take a look.
I installed this 3 years ago...I don't remember grinding anything but maybe I did?
Your pictures showed a crush washer on the fitting. Just don't leave the OEM one stuck on there and have washer against washer

Oh I see what you mean
There is a rubber washer on my loose banjo fittings. Oem has a copper crush washer on your saying. Is it better to jave the crush washer or the blk rubber washer?

It's a great idea, I had no idea that such a thing existed.

As a rule, you should only use a compression fitting once - if you reuse it may leak.
I saw that you asked about grinding - I didn't have to grind - this version was supposed to make that unnecessary. The tube doesn't block access to anything. Also I used the copper/brass waher provided versus the rubber gasket provided.
hope this helps.
Forgot to ask an important question.. Notice in my whole picture of the dipstick parts I have a ZF Transmission fluid bottle.. I want to add this , missed with Dr Tranny, in place of the spilled fluid...Would the new ZF fluid harm my tranny?
2000 740i Sport
SO I finally installed this ZF5HP24 Transmission dipstick kit and just frkn Genius!!
I had the fluid checked with running engine and tranny level. It was at the 1 -2 dot on the end of the Dipstick. My tranny was slipping from 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd etc..Never when I downshifted. I added more fluid to the top notch and all is well...Transmission is smooth as silk now...
2000 740i Sport
glad it worked out. That's what I found too. That less than the top notch and the trans didn't feel quite right. Filled to top notch and all was well.

So your torque converter is fine?

I have smooth power thru each gear again... Even at slows speeds climbing a hill, zero surging...Happy camper!

You have inspired me to possibly put my dip stick mod on now. I have had mine in box for three years. My indy was against it due to having to grind some of the trans housing around pan near fill port. I see you can install without this process? That's the deciding point for me if I'm reading the post correctly.

Man I don't remember grinding anything when I installed mine. Cazal did you have to grind yours?
I will check my fluid level tonight! Maybe that will help my shifting!

My Dipstick mod kit was in my garage for 2 years, lol
Yes, I had to grind the edge on the tranny. The BIG Nut wont fit unless u do Take a look at the NUT. The Nut has an end cap when screwed on..It took 2 mins to grind with a dremel...Super easy..Its Aluminum..
NOT MY PIC but look at the big nut and end cap.. Almost touches the end of the NUT To get it super tight and u need to grind that area...Mine is a 2000 740I so facelifts u have to grind too..... You also needed the extra room to fit your big wrench on the nut.. I used a large crescent wrench on it.

Cazal, thanks man for clarifying this. Might be a while still on my install since it was serviced 3mo ago.

bro, jack up your 7and remove the Filler bolt off..Have a super clean pan to collect the loss fluid...It will be very little coming out. Install the kit. Add the Loss fluid back thru the dipstick hole...Your done!
Your not asked to change fluid adding this kit.. I had to on mine since it was 110k miles old.

1 other weird thin is why do ppl say , to get the transmission level , is to RAISE the REAR END???? It wont ever be level. You have to raise the front end a bit to get the transmission level
2000 740i Sport
They say that to help get a little extra fluid in so there's less of a chance it is underfilled.
I really don't remember grinding anything on mine when I installed. I did it 3 years ago so I could just have memory problems. I'm wondering if my adapter end going into the trans was a little longer giving clearance for the nut. Don't know. But if I did grind, it wasn't much at all because I'm always leery of doing that sort of stuff.

grinding that wing end of the transmission does nothing to the performance of the transmission nor does it create potential for leaks....Its like a bunion..remove it

Ok looks like the project is back on thanks guys for the input.

I checked my fluid level yesterday when I got home from work after the difference OP experienced adding fluid to yours. My trans has been shifting hard, especially at higher RPMs. My dipstick has only 4 hash marks compared to the pictures they show on the website. My fluid was at the lowest mark. I added it up to just below the highest mark. I noticed smoother shifting right away without the harsh shifts and slight slip feeling I would get above 3k rpm. I will see if it stays that way or was just coincidence. The dipstick is fantastic though.

If this kit is using the drain hole as the access point, how do you do a drain/fill without taking it all apart? I've never had trouble getting the correct fill level using a hand pump and the fill until it spills OEM method. Am i missing something?
It uses the fill port for the dip stick. The drain plug in the bottom of pan is not affected.

that would be what i'm missing then lol. i thought they both had the crazy fill from the bottom setup
You'll need to do something like what I made for the 5HP30.
