    Got to love Texas

While driving across Texas, this is one of the things which make me smile.
    75MPH.jpg
Where else in the US can you go 75 MPH on a two lane road legally?

I'm looking forward to more Texas driving at the end of the month at the 2017 Fread R. Memorial BMW Z Series Spring Drive in the Texas Hill Country.

    West Texas?

    85 mph -> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speed_...y_jurisdiction

"As of now, the only road with an 85 mph speed limit is a 41-mile portion of Texas State Highway 130 from the northern terminus of its concurrency with US-183 (30.075512°N 97.692387°W), southward to I-10 near Seguin and the speed limit goes through a mid sized urban area called Lockhart.(29.613349°N 97.876287°W)."

Haha, yea. There's another area with a 2 lane, 70-75mph road... and there's a school zone. Which reduces the speed to 55mph. I laughed the first time I saw it.

Had to look it up on Google Maps:
    It's for an elementary school!

    Hmm that drive sounds interesting.

Drove my Z3M from Troy Mo to Lemore CA to visit my Son in the Navy. When going thru parts of Nevada, noticed the speed limit was 80, so needless to say everyone was doing 90! It was AWESOME!!!!!

Going from Odessa out toward El Paso, the speed limit is like 80 or 85 mph. I don't think it's divided, don't remember.

And when you come up behind someone on a two-lane road, they will usually move over onto the shoulder to allow__or encourage__you to pass them.

Another real fun driving in Texas thing is going through Houston in bumper to bumper rush hour traffic on an eight-lane wide (in each direction) freeway at 90-95 MPH! A bit white-knuckled at first, but you quickly get the hang of it...

We just consider that training for going wheel to wheel. Makes for a real easy transition when you start tracking the car.

When I first moved to Dallas a friend warned me that using a turn signal to change lanes was a sign of weakness.

I see so many memes of BMW owners and not using signals. I guess I was just raised to always use your signal, so whether I'm in the Coupe or wagon I always use my signal. Sad thing is not even cops around here use their signal.

Yess... I use signal at every turn, even entering my own driveway with no one around.

Never ceases to amaze me the select individuals here that get pissed off for "not letting them in" without signaling or any other hint they may want to use this lane, while at the level of my mirrors.
Hand signals, they know those very well.

When I was taught it was expected of me not just because it was the law but because it was polite. And to return that courtesy was to make room for them. I guess I still take it as rude when others fail to show that same courtesy.

Habit for me__one of many, both good and bad__but it's a reflex-action to use the turn signal before slowing/touching the brake pedal when turning.

If I'm going to turn the steering wheel, my hand is expecting to apply a turn signal; I've caught myself signalling when I'm going from my shop's driveway to the house's courtyard__all on my own property**, and still fifty feet (50') before the road!

** total lot size is barely over a half-acre (@ 0.52 ac) so we're not talking about some grande expanse of real estate

But yes, it is courteous and polite, damn it; I do it for other drivers, so why is it so hard for them to comply? They're certainly not too cool to, at least not in my book

I totally agree. The people I really don't understand are those who pull into the turn lane and then turn on their turn signal. The point is to let everyone know what you plan to do, not what you have already done.

Whenever someone talks to me about using turn signals as a BMW driver, I tell them that I - like all BMW drivers - always use our my signal ...but that unfortunately BMW turn signals blink at a frequency which is invisible to people driving lesser cars

Years ago driving in Boston I learned the Yankee version of that rule, "he who makes eye contact yields"

That rule was big among those driving throwdown cars. If they got in an accident, their car was a big enough POS that they'd just walk away and leave it.
