OBD connector problem, pin 15 DIS V57

Hey guys I'm new to working with the DIS V57 software. In the past I have used a simple scan tool to clear codes with no problems, but when I attempt to use DIS I get a communication error stating a voltage problem on pin 15. I have used the cable with other software in the suite and have had success in changing some of the presets in my car. BTW my car is a 2002 525It. The cable is a USB cable, the brand is Autolynks. I'm confused as to why so things seem to work with little problem and others will not work at all. I have done some research on the topic, but haven't really located any good specific answers. I apologize for asking since I see that this seems to be a common problem, and that I may have glanced over the answer. My software is VM based.

As always thank you for any information provided.

    Travis

Pin 15 is the L-data line (which shouldn't be reqired for your car). Terminal 15 however is a different matter and relates to ignition signal (pin 16 of the round BMW diagnostic port under the hood and Pin 1 of your OBD port). Make sure that you have the ignition switched on without the engine running by insertting the key fob into the dash and pushing the start/stop button without depressing the clutch or brake pedal.

Yes DIS looking for terminal 15 voltage isnt the same as the Pin 15 L-line. I never actually noticed the similarity before.

Basic scanners dont look for ignition signal, they just attempt to communicate and will fail if the key is off. Some of the cables people use also dont have the ability to detect ignition signal, which is why people have issues when trying to use them with DIS.

Pin 15/L-line is BMW's proprietary communication line. It was slowly phased between 1996-2001, and cars that were built within this period had varying levels of modules still using this line, which requires a special cable and interface(known as ADS) to communicate with.
