I was directed to check out this post. I really hope my harness doesn't look like yours. No offense. I wish you the best of luck. I def know how you feel though, i just want my car to run right, but am having trouble spending any more cash on it.

    sorting through harnesses sucks.

It's really not hard to replace.

It took me 45 minutes to remove It after I got the intake manifold off. Get a Bentley and label connections on the broken harness.

If you need to borrow a Bentley I have one, pm me.

And dont get discouraged! what problems are you having?

If all else fails for me I'll get another car and swap the motor in and burn this one. Don't think it's gonna come to that though

As smart as you are you could probably figure it out.

Really only one thing on it you can modify

So ran into more problems today, unresolved preexisting problems.

The car would not energize the main, fuel, or any other equipment.

It was stuck at the ECM phase.

After messing with relays and a whole bunch of other crap I decided to test voltage at the jumper box where the power coming from the fusible link feeds.

Got 12 at battery but 0 at terminal, bridged the connection which feeds the main relay to 12v constant and voila. The fuel pump and everything powered on.

Dme is functioning as I have a check engine light

New harness is on but I'm at a stand still until I can get a third camshaft sensor mines toast

The silicon impregnated fibreglass wrap wire protection and the Teflon wiring used for O2 sensors can handle the high heat near exhaust systems. I've had a non Teflon wiring harness melt and cause all kinds of issues, you may want to verify that wire was used.

    Yup, I think so.

Relays are all coming on and I was able to connect to the obd connector under dash. Back to Square one.

Now I just have to put it all back together and order a cam sensor

Feels like its been a month before I post anything here but its only been a few days, ha.

But an update for everyone, waiting on camshaft sensor and have to go to the scrapyard to grab an M50 manifold (mine looks terrible and I want to look nice and clean.)

aside from the BMW, I picked this car up yesterday

2000 VW Cabriolet 2.0l, Mechanic Owned

and what a cool car it is! Guy took it as trade for one of my older HD sportsters that was rarely ridden. Thought you guys may be interested in it as it is German and actually a pretty neat little ride. Car has fresh paint, new lowered suspension, BBS Reps, New Top, Sound System, New sports seats/steering wheel, New exhaust with a decent muffler, and came with a ton of spare parts/original seats, etc... I would have never seen myself driving one of these 8 years ago, interesting how your taste changes as you get older. The motor looks super easy to work as there's a ton of room in there and parts appear to be relatively cheap. Would make a nice DD and I bet out would fly with some boost on it

    Anyway here a few pics:

I hope to be back in the garage this weekend wrenching on the 328

If a child of mine bought that Volkswagen I would stop buying them Christmas presents and write them out of my will.

I was a bit skeptical and always have been a bit skeptical of them.

But honestly it's actually kind of fun.

And the fiance likes it so that's all that really matters

I traded a 883 sporster for it which wasn't ridden very often

They say the samething about the boxster. (And I was about to trade for one, a 2000 actually). Condition was horrendous though. I would have spent absolute fortune fixing the thing up.

And hold up... wasn't Britney Spears on a tabloid for an E36 when they rolled out? And I know youve seen some of the guys BMW put behind the wheel for there flyers. Can you say sweater vest?

Funny thing is fiance can't even reach the pedals (yet).
