Have only heard good things about them.
And they can be had as a standard as well.
Speaking of surfboards, I'm off to my hometown, obx nc tomorrow. Getting married on the beach on Sunday... we waited 16 years!

Congrats man!
hope you have/had a nice wedding+honeymoon!
At what point do you know your ZF is dead or just about dead?
I've replaced Master/Slave cylinder thoroughly bled the hydraulic system because I couldn't get the car to go into gear.
Pumped the clutch for about 1 hour, got pressure back. Car was shifting okay, had to slam it into gear, popped out of 3rd at one point.
Now the car won't shift into gear at all
Hydraulic issue then bent shift forks trying to shift?
It would have been best to pressure bleed the clutch from the slave cylinder up. They can be a bitch trying to gravity bleed them.
Possibly...
I spent a good 4 hours make sure the thing was bled a few weeks ago (Brakes and Clutch) and then when I replaced the clutch pedal yesterday another 2 hours or so. Took another hour of pumping the clutch pedal to to regain pressure.
Used a vacuum bleeder and reverse bled the slave/calipers. Replacing the master cylinder is probably one of the irritating tasks so far
Drove the car, it shifted but still required a bit more force than usual. Probably wasn't a good idea to redline 1st and 2nd as soon as I got on pavement... Couldn't get the car into third under load, had to slow down.
I'm going to go with shift forks or that the trans is going to need pulled and inspected. Guess I'm looking for a replacement ZF as well
Side Note, Kill Story
A few weeks back I had modified newer style 350z pull up beside me at a roll, about 25 mph. He wanted to race, I was in third, he started to pull a way a little so I dropped into 2nd and hit about 6800rpm. By the time I found the middle of the power band in third gear I had at least 1 1/2 to 2 car lengths on him and pulled away. We slowed down and he gave me a thumbs up. This was the first person that actually pulled up next me though. I figure that car was making about 320whp? So the E36 has to be right around there...

Went back out to the garage and checked everything over again...
Checked the bleeder to the slave cylinder appeared to be a little loose. So I tightened it, pumped the clutch a few times and was able to put the car into gear and shift fine.
I then started to back out of the garage while depressing the brake and as soon as I came to level ground I couldn't shift into gear, once again. Was able to start the car in gear and get it back into the garage
I don't think the shift forks are bad... Not sure whats going on with the hydraulics? I decided to bleed everything again, fluid ran out with no bubbles, all bleeder valves.
I just finished pumping the clutch for 30 minutes but got tired of it
Suggestions? I have no idea whats going on with this thing
Got it to go into gear... Notchy as hell but is at least drive-able now
Must be shift detent pins
Hey everyone, been awhile since I've been on here.
I'm starting a new job in a few weeks with a long drive, so I've been toying around with the idea of swapping my turbo setup into something a bit more comfortable. Preferably a Sedan. I want the drive to be as fun and comfortable as possible
I can't seem to find any clean shells at all but have found an auto that's immaculate for a good price. How long will an auto hold up if I'm easy on if I just swap the engine? That way my wife can drive it too, I don't want to spend the coin on a trans swap right now, maybe later
ideas/suggestions?
Thanks again
Auto might last a little while at 5 psi. But it’s 20-25 years old.
Im tempted to try it and throw ZF in when it dies
Just buy a daily, I daily a E46 sedan, it's awesome and a *little* peppy if I wail on it. E46 are dime a dozen and almost identical to the E36.
If it means anthing I average 25mpg.
Thanks Guys,
I'm looking at this: https://richmond.craigslist.org/ctd/...087502283.html
Mk, I think I'm done with the convertible - I sold the hardtop and a few other items off of it yesterday. My drive is going to be quite a ways away. I have a VW, a Bike, and my truck. But I think having a clean nice boosted E36 would awesome to drive 2 days out of the week to mix it up. Would also be more appealing to a buyer if I wanted to sell it one day.
The car above is a 4 door, super clean inside and out - only downfall is that its not (M3, ofoucrse) a manual. Swapping from auto to manual a pain? I have all the parts from the vert.
Let me know what you all think.
Looks like a great daily to me

Lowball him, old car will need ton of work. Also, I guess they do have subframe issues (e46) but honestly I've had 3 and all automatics have not had subframe issues. The manuals get hot dogges but still, they shouldnt crack like they do.
Do it, just put in your M52 with the manual, lots more fun. if you will do the transplant from the vert I don't really see why you won't just throw the manual in as well.
ohw, don't go e46, I had a 330ci, and that compared to my (previous non boosted) e36 was a big let down.
It is a better car overall, but lacks character imho.
The e36 in the advert looks nice, but with that mileage it probably needs new front lower control arms a.o.
No biggie, but something to keep in mind.
The turbo setup is definitely going into a clean chassis. Just having trouble finding one... especially manual.
Found another auto, silver, pretty decent but has 3.91 diff, so thatd have to be changed out as well.
Ideally, I like this car but the price is just too high. Has the 3.15 diff and appears to have a ton of upgrades a f fixes and I think looks pretty darn good. But hes asking 5k without the wheels, smh:

IMO it's better to spend more up front and have a good solid base. The E36 isn't getting any younger...
I agree ^
Just a lot of coin though... I'd imagine with my turbo setup in it that it would be worth in upwards of 10k, so kind of an investment
Maybe you could eventually build an auto. The ones most people do are 3 speed and they change to a manual
Valve body but perhaps auto could be kept. 3 speed is not efficient. No one has fitted an OD yet. They are bigger. Also I think they all need to be built to take the torque.
