Exit 5 is about 1 1/2 hours from DC..... if you don’t give a poop about the speed limits. Did Atlantic City in 1:45, typically a 4 hour drive, on a ZX12R in the rain, Monday morning rush hour through Rt. 40, 95, to BWI Parkway, through DC, to Chantilly, VA once.... speeds up to 190, for long stretches, and a ton of cutting lanes when traffic on BW Parkway got stupid bad,...
But really, Exit 5 is close to the Delaware bridge, coming down 95, should take about 2:15 doing the speed limit.

Set the controls for the heart of the sun
I have a 609 area code on my cell (i was in the coast guard stationed out there in cape may) Can i participate via skype? ;P
Hey Thrifty, what’d you do in the CG? My sisters husband just made Master Chief stationed out in Washington State, they are heading back to North Carolina in a couple months, which is cool, not too far from here. He was working on Dauphines, but will now be working on the UH60’s, supposed to take me up on one of his test flights.

Ayyyyyeeeee, haha ill hire a surrogate who can tape an Ipad to their face so it will almost be like im really there!
That is awesome! I was an ET (Electronic Technician) and we troubleshot/repaired electronics equipment like radar, transceivers, etc.. for the cutters. It sounds like your brother in law is an AET (Aviation Electronic Tech) so basically same position but for the CG's heli's. Ive heard nothing but good things about airstation Elizabeth City!
Oh ok, man! I don't know how you guys can stay out on those ships for periods. I used to do a lot of UAV work, and on a couple occasions, had to go out on NAVY cutters for testing purposes, basically, the company I worked for built the helicopter platforms, me being the builder and test pilot, and the NAVY was testing their equipment putting the helis out on test missions out at sea, my job was to fly the helis off the ship, get it out 25 yards, hit a switch and the heli begun it's mission flying out into the night out of sight, all on it's own. I'd go back inside and play video games, or read a book, or something, in a few hours, I would be called out on deck, wait for the heli to come back into sight, and I would hit the switch regaining control to bring her back in. Back in those days, the flight control systems couldn'r account for the ship bobbing up and down in 25 ft seas. Kinda hairy being in control of a toy helicopter carrying about $150,000 worth of US Government property on board. On a few occasions, I did get seasick from the ship being in some rough seas, horrible feeling, until you'd spew... I don't think I will be doing that crap again.
Yes, Elizabeth City is were they are headed. Kinda excited, I have ridden in quite a few helicopters, definitely have fun flying and crashing the rc model helis, but getting a ride in one of the CG's helis will sure be a treat!!! Haha! I will just be an observer, i don't think they will let me take the controls on that flight though. I have flown a Hughes MD500 in the Philippines, recently, a friends Jet Ranger last year out here in VA, actually simpler than flying an rc helicopter. Cool stuff.
