Summer is here, time to fix the sword. Where is it?
And I just got my order from FCP, 2 idlers, 12 spark plugs, belts, wheel center cap badges, accelerator pedal pivot bushing, trunk struts.
I think I'll replace the oil pan gasket today. I added 1 gallon of synthetic Rotella last week, and 3 quarts again after coming back from a 200 mile trip to Laconia Bike Week
That's a lot of oil, must be burning a lot too. Might want to switch to 15W50\10W60.

Oil spec is usually not the problem. Oil consumption often comes from this http://bmwe32.masscom.net/sean750/vc.../VCVvalves.htm
I had the same, made an oil catcher to test it, catched a lot of oil, changed to new crankcase ventilation and all oil consumption gone see my website under Fun and Upgrades >>>M70 PVC prototype

Shogun tricks and tips for the E32 series are HERE!
Stem seals are M20-style and they can give problems too (I'm at 1\5000 mi) hence the need for a higher oil spec\additive or a proper fix.
He'll have to check the VCVs when he reseals the manifold too. It could very well be the cause of his increasing oil consumption.

I never noticed blue smoke, and last year I sold an early 2000 Suburban with a 5.3 LS motor, and it would smoke like crazy if it was left at idle. An easy fix was a ported PCV valve, $5 and 5 Seconds, and it didn't help the problem much if any.
I have a radiator cooling system pressure tester, but I need the adapter to screw it into the Overflow bottle. And Amazon is no help, they have everything you need, but their search engine needs to be fixed. Their shipping is always reliable, and I order from walmart.com and they always screw things up, their pictures and listing descriptions don't match the items.
And the post office just lost a belt that I need for my lawnmower, typical. I order things from China and they arrive in a timely manner for pennies, listings that I see on eBay for tools or camera brackets. Some things work so well, and something barely
I replaced mine as preventative, it went from 1\3000 or so to 1\5000. I guess additives like Liqui Moly Oil Saver could get it up higher, but my oil's already out by then. It doesn't necessarily need to be smoking either. It could very well be giving the ghost, check it out when you do you plugs and the manifold. Could be as simple as a cracked hose.
Also, remember to remove the plug on your HCV when you replace your stat so it can bleed. The car seems to have almost doubled the purchase price by now, so I guess it's a mini restoration at this point.
BMW from the late 80's to the early 2000's had pretty much the same expansion tank thread, just generically look up for that adapter.
