I emailed FCP to match prices, Rock is cheaper on belt idlers and thrust arm bushings, even with shipping. We'll see what happens...
Should I get ebay belts? Dayco-Sears boxed and Goodyear. $5 each inc shipping vs $8 for Bando + all items in my cart are $7 sh. Doesn't make any sense, but shipping 12 plugs, arm bushings, oil filter, couple of bulbs, 1 belt (other belt ships from another cart), and thermostat all ships for $7.99. Just the belt idlers ship for $13.99, and a lower radiator hose for my diesel Suburban is $12 + the same care $7.99 sh. The upper hose is $8, but $12 sh. Go figure...
INA Idlers are not comparable to Four Seasons, they're much better quality OEM parts.
Go Continental\ContiTech for the belts if you can.

Yea, it looks like a vacuum leak and not the MAFs, it's not even running without them (super rich failsafe preset, forgot if it's only runs on six when both are out). The left side is idling worse than the right, I'd check out the intake gaskets. Brake cleaner works good enough with these.

Where is the link to the wheel center cap again? I see FCP, but I think I saw some less expensive options.
And is there a link for MAF (rubber) mount? I don't think it's the same as oil filter, which is $1.49 from FCP.
I finally placed a Rock Auto order, but I missed that I only ordered one spark plug instead of 12, I'll order 11 from FCP. I also am wondering which intake sealant I need, I know it's buried in the many pages of this wonderful post. I just drove to Ottawa Ontario, taking it easy on the speed, and according to my calculations got almost 20 MPG comma but I suspect my odometer is reading fast like my speedometer, which will lower my actual MPG
Use your VIN, go to wheels and there you find the part number http://www.realoem.com/bmw/select.do
copy that and check at FCP or other shops.
Same with the MAF rubber mount, that is under fuel preparation http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=13_1379

Shogun tricks and tips for the E32 series are HERE!
I found the required MAF Mount, but I can't add anything to my cart at REALOEM. And I tried a variety of different clicking here and clicking there.
Those are just listed dealer prices. FCP has it. Ideally, you want to use Reinzosil (sold on FCP) but I've heard that Permatex hi-temp and the lot are pretty nice too.

#12 plug is a pain to get to and a re often neglected, with the mani off it'll be easier. What did you order on RockAuto?

I'd use loctite instead of the wire method for the bolts.

Another little problem has cropped up, my gas pedal pivot seems to be missing a plastic clip or retainer or part of the bushing. I've almost got the insulating panel off above it so I can get a better view of it
They eat them, sometimes you'll see them with the door dislodged because of it.

I ordered 1(!) spark plug, Bosch 7959, LemForder (front) rear-upper thrust bushings, Hella 185f tstat, Bosch oil filter, Bando 6PK1170 AC belt and a couple of bulbs... I should have ordered 1 more fuel filter (I have 1 already)... I'm going to order the alt belt from eBay, and a friend has rebuilt alt and starter I hope to get at a friends BBQ next month.
I crawled underneath on Friday to try add some differential anti slip-friction modifier, but I needed a larger Allen key, or remove the Allen bit from a socket and use an adjustable wrench because of the limited clearance to the gas tank, and how do I get to limited-slip-oil modifier in? So little room... I have a gallon pump gizmo... Maybe I'll dump the oil and mix the anti slip oil in to new GL5, and my pump nozzle should fit in the limited space

Take a short hex bit, and box wrench. leak is the output seal, but it's usually at a snail's pace...

FCP also sells Mahle fuel filters, 10 cents less than the Mann and made in Germany.
You can also inspect the cap/rotor arms up front when you do your belts.

Cap rotor arms? Once I have the belts off, shouldn't I have the cap and rotor ready? Is "arm" the rotor?
I put new tires on yest, Cooper Touring, USA, $349 minus 2 rebates of $135 and free shipping = $215 for nice smelly black tires. One of the Chinese tires that I removed had a big cut or split around half of the tread, but no signs of separation, even though I just drove it back from California, and just came back from Ottawa going 75-80 miles per hour.
We had two days of rain, and like usual my trunk was full of water, I'll have to hop inside and run the garden hose and see where it's leaking from. I also need new wiper blade refills, and RockAuto shows two different models, but no width measurement. Anybody know exactly which blade refill they take?

Tighten up the trunk latch, inspect the tailight area. Cap and rotor on sale, OEM only.

This refill should fit, just use FCP since you're ordering the rest there.

$120 for caps and rotors??? I'll go with ebay-China lol
So I need to remove the belts to access the distributor cap to check its condition? I have a sneaky feeling it hasn't been changed since the Dark Ages... and RockAuto get pennies for refills, but 5-6 $7 shipping, and it was in a different cart from the other order that just arrived today
Yeah just yank the fan off (maybe you can do it with it on), the MAFs and you can access them. When you seal the intake gaskets you can take a look since those come off.

Get your plugs\other belt\idlers and get cracking at it. Caps can come off at any time really.

EBay China junk... Parts break when you open the package...
look on ebay, there was a guy who had Bremi distributor caps. listed by ebay valet, no one found the listing- bid started at 29, shipping was free. i bid and no one else did, i won it. found the other side on his ebay store and got that one for 30. you can find stuff if you look, let me try and locate that store for you. he may have more.
Found this to be a bit funny. GM stuffed the M70 into a Caprice to study drive by wire, and that made it into your 6.5.

At the GM heritage museum near Detroit, they have a modified 1970 Firebird, with a Ferrari V12, I'll see if I can find the picture.
The last picture is a V12 Cadillac overhead cam that was intended for the 1967 introduction of the front wheel drive Eldorado, which is why the nose on the Eldorado was so long. It's cobbled together, but GM dropped it in favor of the 500 cubic inch thin wall high nickel V8. It seems to me that the Eldorado V12 you're looking at had 3 throttle bodies and mechanical fuel injection, even the Corvair had experimental fuel injection, similar to the 57 to 65 Corvette. One of the fuel injected Corvair engines is at Clark's Corvair Parts in Shelburne Falls Massachusetts

It looks fairly compact for a SOHC engine, 8.1L at that! That El Dorado is a bit sad though, it marks the beginning of the "there are some corporate things we're going to drive; we are a front-drive corporation." era.
BMWs first V12 since the late 20's was two of their overhead cam sixes welded together, more or less production ready but they felt the need to hold it back "to respect their future accomplishments" (E31\E32). Add in an alloy block, 80's electronics, hydraulic lifters and other oddities and you get the M70.

Removing the rear thrust arm was more complicated than the front one I did Colorado. I had to loosen the sway bar bracket, and working from my new temporary shop, I didn't have as many tools as I would have liked, anyways I brought the thrust arm over to my old shop I'm not supposed to be using because of divorce, and I slipped it into my 12-ton press, made in USA BTW and the bushing wouldn't budge even though I was cranking on the 12 ton jack with all my might. So I drove around the block to a friend's machine shop, and after waiting over 2 hours for him to finish up working on some racing engines, he stuck it in his 60 ton press, and the bushing slipped out like a hot knife through butter. I made sure to install the new bushing with the arrow pointing towards the dimple in the control arm, and I'll remove the passenger side control arm this morning, and bring it back to the shop and spend the day waiting for him to get to me.
I need my dream Shop, with a hoist, maybe 2, rim clamp tire machine, 50 ton hydraulic hoist, hook up my sandblasting cabinet I've owned for 35 years I've never used...
