I'm looking into an E53 4.4i that has bent valves from timing chain guide failure... but has a great service history, single owner, etc.
I've been doing some research and can't seem to find definitive answers regarding a swap of an M62TUB44 from the usual candidates.
The 99-01 e38 M62TUB44 seems to be the most abundant. But I've seen a few remarks that seem to say there may be issues using an e38 M62TUB44 due to the differences mentioned here.
I can understand the necessary parts required to be swapped from the E53 (i.e. Oil pan/pump/pickup, exhaust manifolds, valve cover, intake, pcv/ccv systems and engine mounts) but all the discussions seem to discuss this in theory. I haven't seen anyone post comments after they've actually completed this swap.
Has anyone performed this swap and confirmed this will work? Or is it just that simple that there is no follow up required and it just works?

Had to do some digging before hand but my daughter ended up buying a 2003 4.4i this weekend for her first car. Timing chain jumped on it and it continued to be driven. Valves are bent. Let the fun begin!!!

One last update, I have found confirmation that the engines are identical as some of you may have expected. Looks like no worries here.
