Best way to re-program diagnostic laptop

About a year ago, I bought a Dell laptop that had all of the older diag software (EIDIBAS, INPA, DIS, PROGMAN, etc). I took it out of storage last month, and it refused to boot from the DVD that was provided with it, or even load Windows for that matter, giving me the BSOD. I took it to a computer repair facility, and they told me that the disc was no longer working (I don't know, scratched or corrupted somehow?). Problem is, I can no longer find the guy that was selling it on Ebay, so I can't get a new disc from him. I'm going to be picking the computer up in a day or two, so I don't have it in front of me to tell you what model number it is, but it's one of the lower-priced ones with a serial port.

What would be the best way to get it up and running again? Does someone sell the software, or should I follow that thread on loading the software that's on the top of the page? I'm nearly computer-illiterate, so I need all the help I can get.

Re-post when you have the model number of your machine, someone here should have a boot disk that will get you up and running again.

Okay, so it's the Dell Latitude D-610, and as of now, it's not booting from either the hard drive or the disc that came with the package. The computer repairman said that the disc was likely corrupted, but the hard drive checks out okay, and that he might be able to load XP back onto it ($80).

Should I have him load XP back into it, then start programming it from scratch (or as mentioned earlier, from a disc(preferable)), or just take it back as-is, having it boot the diagnostic OS from the DVD player?
