I have just installed new 6x9 speakers to the rear of my compact, but when I finished all the wiring and tried to test it out I was getting no sound from the rear at all. Checked all the wiring and it is in order. Wired the original speakers up again and still no sound. checked the fuse in my head unit and its fine. So I'm thinking it must be a fuse somewhere else, possibly in the amp if it has one.
Here's the question though, I have searched through many forums and can't seem to find out if the compact even has a factory amp or not and if so where is it?? I read that coupes have an amp at the rear left wheel well under a side carpet panel, the compact doesn't have an amp there.
You don't have sound faded to the front, don't you?
No that was the first thing I checked.
Hi,
You'll need to ask in the specific E36 section to see if anyone can give you an idea of the location it could be installed in. Remember to specify that you have a UK market compact and mention the model you have along with which OEM audio setup the car has. You can check the spec of how the car left the factory by checking on this site
https://www.bmwvin.com/
You'll then need to check that the car still has the OEM modules installed, as previous owners might've swapped/changed things. If the OEM modules are still there, you can see if there's an an amplifier unit, if so, swap that for a known working one. If not, then swap the head unit with a known working one and retry.
Cheers, Dennis!
@dveed Agree with Dennis here but just wanted to help. Did you try checking if the amp trigger wire is connected. This usually does the trick.
