looked on the forum and everyone says "reinitialize and calibrate sensor" but not in my case..
SO..recently purchased a 2013 x5 35d, a few days after bringing it home i noticed that the automatic wipers did not work. they would come on once when you hit the button and that was it.
At the time of purchase i knew that the windshield had been recently changed, and not with oem glass.
Glass does not have to be oem, contrary to what the dealer will tell you, they didnt even want to help unless they put oem glass in.
i took it into my own hands and noticed that the silicone pad between the sensor and the glass was MIA. there cannot be any air between the sensor and the glass for the sensor to work properly. whoever installed this windshield never put a new "adhesive" layer as BMW calls it, and thats why the sensor wasnt picking up the light reading from the glass.
and this so called "adhesive layer" is not sold by bmw as a part, so you have to buy the whole 319$ sensor
heres the silicone pad i bought, its already cut to size , just peel and stick on the sensor, and then put the sensor on the glass. air bubbles come out easier on a warm day
make sure you buy one that fits your sensor!

if you cant find one, this company makes diy kits that you inject onto your sensor and it sets up perfect.
