New Touring Owner - 540 with 45k miles

Long story short bought a super low mile (18k) 325Ci and it was super fun but just not practical for my family of 5. So when someone offered a great price i took it and went in search of a wagon. Found a 2001 540i auto touring with only 45k on the clock and snapped it up. I remember my dad having a 740 short sport back in the day and always enjoyed the V8.

It's in excellent mechanical shape just needs a bit of cleaning which I am doing little by little. Oxford green over tan leather.

It has the 4 spoke bus steering wheel and I'm looking to put a sport wheel in it. My wheel has a button for the recirculation air setting. Is there a sport wheel that includes that? I've not seen one.

Also, can someone point me to an explanation of all the stuff in the battery compartment? There's a big computer box with vents on the top and what looks like controls for the pneumatic suspension under it. Don't see it on realoem.com nor in the Bentley manual PDF I have.

Thanks and once its all cleaned up I'll take it to BMW row at Caffeine and Octane to represent for the tourings.

Well OK I did find the stuff in the battery compartment ha ha. Its the subwoofer I didn't recognize since it didn't look like a....I don't know....a speaker maybe?

lol...yeah, that's a busy area of the chassis...!! and don't worry.....you'll get familiar with those air suspension 'controls' soon enough !! All kidding aside....welcome to the group...!! It's an awesome forum and there's a lot of knowledge floating around here. I have family in Atlanta so I'll have to time a visit so I can represent the north....down south....haha....
I honestly don't recall mine having the recirc button on the wheel....mine's an '03.

I just replaced my stock wheel with a sport wheel and my stock wheel had recirculation too. I was told no sport wheel has recirculation.

Hey been traveling and just saw this. I paid 10 cause that's what I had and that's what he'd take. After owning for a few months wish I could have paid less because there were a few maintenance items and signs of poor mechanick-ing that needed doing. But after the scuba tank delete it's pretty much just what I wanted for a DD.
