Did most people with issues have then right away or can it happen at any time? For those who fixed it, was it the guides? I am good at 40k miles on my 2012, or at least the instrument panel guage said right full, 10k miles after the last change. Of course the guage might be looking for 8.5qts so it could read full even it had burned one off. Either way this seems to be a lot better than some are experiencing. I am just curious to know if the typical oil burning tends to start at a particular time.
LOL at BMW saying 2.5qts is normal because the car is a turbo.I have owned a bunch of FI vehicles, only one which ran stock boost, and none of them burned a quart in between oil changes.
55k miles now and no oil use. I know its not that much, but with all the N63 grenade info out there it is reassuring that 550i doesn't = doomed. Runs like a champ although the injectors are the noisiest I have ever owned.
Check your turbo oil lines...most probable culprit.
