I want to buy 2 loose engines, allegedly from 745is. They have had the heads swapped around, I can tell that from the date codes on the head, but I'd like to get some data on the blocks. I have the following numbers stamped on the blocks near the starter pads: 43343546 and 8190508.
Can someone teach me how to trace these numbers back to a car and/or a year? Real OEM won't take the short serial number, if that's what it is.
Thanks.

In my experience, Ljets have the VIN cast into the block. Along with something like '3,2 6T A' Motronic cars do not seem to have the VINs stamped into them, but feature the same '3,4 6T A' and some eight digit code. If you receive text messages with photos, I can send you a picture of three Motronic blocks (07/83, 10/84, and 05/85) and one Ljet (12/82).
The 11/84 I have a picture of the casting number handy that I will try to attach here.
I make E23 parts.
09/1983 745i (stolen spring '13 around Houston, TX Achatgruen on nutria buffalo. 8481080)
10/1984 745i
11/1984 745i
11/1984 735i (10:1-265/6)
Ford, MB, and GM round out the pack.
