Probably a MKIII since it's a 2001. Either way it's outdated and useless by today's standards. I popped a Dynavin N6 into my 540i, it's a lot better.
Your 540i looks decently clean but it could really benefit from some black trim strips... the body-colored trims make it look blobby and shapeless haha. Silver needs the contrast to look good. Are you planning on keeping the wheels?
Also, what do you think of the steering? Everyone makes it seem like the 540i steering is cancer compared to the 530i steering.

I was just thinking that today... I may have to add a little contrast to it. Do you have any pics of what it would look like on a silver car?
Wheels, not sure... I kinda like them but I wanna see how they look lowered. I'm more of a fan of OEM style wheels so I could go either way on 65s or M-Pars.

Looks very weird with no lip on the wheels. Not a fan. I also agree with the black trim strips. Otherwise it just reminds me of a cookie cutter nissan altima.

That's the best look for a silver E39 in my opinion. Silver is a bit of a boring color on its own, but once you jazz it up a bit with M-Pars and black trim strips it really comes alive. Stück's 530i was silver and he made it look rad like that.

That one has M bumpers and i'm a way off from getting those...

Even without the M-tech bumpers, the black trim strips make silver look way better

I vote M bumpers, black strips, and style 65s, obviously
My HVAC did the same as yours once. Just wouldn't turn on no matter what buttons you press, then the next day it worked perfectly.

Nice speed rocket!
Enjoy....
What a nightmare of a day.... began tearing out the back seat to get new suspension in (lowering springs with M5 struts) and it was one problem after the other. Turns out I have DSP which made getting the rear deck lid out a pain. Fold down seats were nice but didn't save much time. Once everything inside was done we tore out the fender liner and ran into the STUPID evap canister box (?) on the driver side and spent probably 2 hours trying to get the old struts and new ones back in only to realize it only takes about 5 minutes to completely remove it out of the way. I PRAY the passenger side is easier. If anybody has any tips for the passenger side and front suspension, i'm all ears!
In other news, I replaced the FSU and the blower/heat is working perfectly consistently... also got new windshield wipers.

Did you got upper control arms (at least one of them have to come out the way to slide the strut out) off the way?

Front is easy, remove brake caliper and Speed sensor off knuckle, loosen both control arms off the subframe and you can swing knuckle down enough to lift up front strut out the knuckle

Your current situation is not your final destination
I don't recall ever meddling around with the Evap box in the rear at all when I did my suspension rebuild. I too have folded down rear seats and have the subwoofers in there. It wasn't that hard to get it all out to reach to the top of the strut mounts. From the bottom it was fairly easy. I don't see any difficulty removing the right rear strut too. Are you only replacing the struts/shocks or control arms, etc?? If the struts, then it is as same as when you worked on your 530i.
It was the weirdest most frustrating thing. Saturday we put my coilovers on my car and it was a breeze removing the old equipment and installing the new...Sunday working on Ruski's 540 was the exact opposite.
I think the difference is we weren't drinking on Sunday. Probably would have had a much better time if we'd had a few beers.
They're finally on and everything is put back together as of last night. I'm hoping they settle just a tad moar. Even managed to fix the bumper sag a bit... now it's time to tackle the power steering leak.

Ride height looks perfect to me. No need to drop any lower.
Yeah, that looks good. What's the distance from center of wheel to top of wheel arch? Like 13.5?
