Did my first official fix today... passenger side halo bulb was out, happened to have a spare pair and plugged them in and it's working now! Also lowered it a bit and proof that I still have the 530i

Congrats! It looks very nice. And yes, keep the 530 to take you to the parts store to pick up chain guides - hopefully not!

The car looks very nice. I have the sport seat, and I wish I had 2-tone M5 seats instead. It's always what you don't have that you desire.

So far looks like the FSU has gone kaput, the NAV computer is also out so the screen doesn't display anything. Other than that the car is amazing so far even though it has a little bit of Vanos tick (rattle?)

i also noticed today the car is not leaking oil anymore... all fluids are still full so I have no idea what happened. Maybe the guy spilled oil into the lower engine cover?

    are slow
Most V8 oil leaks are ignorable unless VCG and slow. It probably just slowed down, as they're fairly inconsistent.

I love this thing though, it has me waking up EARLY for work so I can avoid freeway traffic and enjoy it in all its glory. My plan is to take it in for the airbag recall this week and have them do a "courtesy inspection," to get an idea of what things are needing fixing on it in order of importance. Then i'm going to degrease the engine bay and cut the muffler off LOL.

Be careful there, you might end up selling 530 to invest all the profits into 540 lol
    ...
off - maybe you should make a saving jar and every time you want to spend money on 540 just drop them into jar, next year you will have money to buy an M5, I did not done that and Mine ate over $10.000 in parts without labor cuz I did all the work, I could have low mileage '02+ M5 for price of that 540 + what it coast and then what I paid for high mileage M5 + all the repairs I already done to this M5

I recently did the airbag recall got a loaner F30 2016 328i XDrive Sport and they even washed and vac'd my car.

My 328i loaner was nearly the same size as the 540i so I thought it would be natural transition and it was but I have my gripes.
The visibility felt a bit odd after driving the E39 since it spoils you with its perfect design execution, but interior room was great, all the new tech and real cupholders was nice! IDrive was simple to learn.
It was definitely slower off the line if you couldn't brake torque it and if you did it would give a 540i a run to 60, up top the V8 is faster, the sound of the engine was played by the speakers, also its not the best sounding engine either. I was driving in sport plus mode just to get the most out of it steering/engine/trans no engine restart. The eco mode was great on mpgs with engine restart and always up shifted for efficiency, comfort mode kepted rpms just right without holding the revs and best w restart off steering was light, sport mode or plus just loves to hold revs by staying in lower gears longer the steering also got tighter.
Outside noise was a bit bothersome it just lacks the sound deadening refinement of a luxury car like the 540i, you get fake leather and lots of hard plastics along with pedestrian size 225/50/17" wheels/tires no spare with a weight of 3700lbs. That's only 100lbs less than my 540i with a full spare if I did take the spare out do a muffler delete and its almost the same weight. I can't justify its msrp of nearly 50k with options on a car that lacks some of the things a Honda Accord doesn't.
Once I got back in the E39 everything felt right at home i do miss the tech and features of my loaner but the car I want to be in is the 540i.

I'm glad you're liking the V8 that's the same way I felt. Looking forward to your thread im debating on the muffler delete as I like being stealth at the same time.

Weight of the stock 540 muffler if anyone was curious.

still way too quiet so I guess I'll be replacing the resonator with a high flow one.

You'll likely get drone, so be mindful of that if it's your daily driver.

It's the same exhaust setup my friend has on his 540/6 (the one I made a launch video with) sounds perfect and no drone.

The key is to replace the resonator with another one, as opposed to cutting it off entirely. That should stop most of the drone and with a resonator you won't lose any back pressure.

Exactly! Was stupid enough to cut the resonator and muffler off on my 530 and it droned like crazy until I put in a high flow resonator.

Here is how it should hopefully sound with a high flow res.

Oh and, made an appointment to get the airbag recall done tomorrow at my local dealer. They offer complimentary inspections so tomorrow will be the ultimate test in finding out how deep my pockets are gonna have to be to fix whatever unseen problems it has.

I also couldn't wait.. friend came across some coilovers for his 540 so i'll be taking his lowering springs LOL.

Hey everyone, so just got back from the dealership... said they could replace my airbag but came out an hour later to tell me that the parts had "not been released yet," so I ended up just getting an inspection, car wash, and picked up a piece from the dealer I needed (cheap).. Overall the only areas of attention that they could find was that the upper timing cover gaskets were leaking oil and the power steering fluid was leaking as well (level 3). Okay, I will go ahead and repair that ASAP.

I got in the car and started driving to the DMV to get it registered to me and oddly enough noticed that the heater fan was blowing! All settings worked perfect and all directions as well. I have no idea if the dealer did something or if it's just the FSU playing games, either way, I am more than pleased to know that it is not the blower motor! I will be keeping an eye on it to see if it goes out again.

Anyways, since the dealer washed her and it's raining, we will have to settle for some not so great gloomy photos:

Everything works, sunroof, windows, mirrors, etc.. except the NAV but that is not a concern ATM.
In case anyone is wondering, the wheels are 17" Beyern Spartan.

Nice score Ruski. Some good options are installed in this vehicle. Rear sunshade and nav. Any idea you know if it's a MKIII or MKIV?
