probably. I'm just going full overkill. I was even fine with the pedal feel until a friend drove it and mentioned the pedal feel.

    Thanks Trevor.

I'll keep an eye out for M5 callipers over here.

I've driven over 100 miles with the larger master cylinder in. It has had zero effect on the abs/dsc system.

Yes, I saw it, and I thought it is the only difference, and when you used adapter to that bigger front section bore I thought it just made it "absolutely" the same.
Maybe internal parts are different, maybe piston is larger in Z8 MC?

Bore size(piston size, internal size) of the Z8 mc is 27mm instead of 25mm. The port thread on the Z8 is m12 instead of m10. That's what the adapter is for. Just so I didn't have to make a new flare on the hard line.

That is cool for sure, I definitely want to do the same mod, not that I have problems but would be nice to have larger MC with my brake setup

A quick question. Did you use 750 or 740 carriers for this?
I'm just getting a list of all the parts I want for mine.
    Cheers

No, hence the reason for redrilling the E60 carriers

Sorry, my bad. Had a brain fart while listing parts.

Of course you used the E60 ones or the callipers wouldn't mount up.

I have no idea why the pics rotated during the upload. Just tilt your head.

The only problem I have, and I'm not sure of the source, The ECS aluminum hats do not center on the E38 hubs correctly. I'm not sure if the replacement bearings have a shorter center shoulder or the rotors just have a deep relief on the back of the hat. I can center the the disc with the taper wheel bolts then tighten the retaining screw.
The OE disks may fit just fine.

I assume so. But I don't have one to compare and they are too expensive for me to find out

The center bores are the same size but just different

I learned something new today. There is a guy on Facebook and he put X5 e70 brake master cylinder/brake booster assembly on his E38, and the thing is - X5 MC have 27mm Front bore and 22mm rear.
Master Cylinder itself won’t fit E38 booster, but X5 brake booster is bolt-on to E38 firewall

This is good for people who have BBK on both axles. If you use BBK only on the front then you can go with Z8 MC which has bigger front and same rear

The e60 M5 is 27/22. I need to measure the e60 rear piston to see it's size compared to the stock size. If they are the same I think too much bias will be on the rear. If it's bigger then I might consider looking into the different booster.

I was arguing with this guy on Facebook about X5 MC about it nat being compatible with e38 and he threw a picture showing e38 with X5 MC on X5 booster. He said X5 booster is direct fit to e38 firewall

Good morning, there is a discussion on Facebook in regard to brake upgrades for the E31 8 series and this E60 brake thread was mentioned. So I thought I would read through it because I am still looking for a rear brake upgrade for my '91 850i.

I just finished piecing together parts and upgrading the front brakes. I am using 4-pot Brembos, adapters, custom hoses I had made locally, and ECS Tuning E92 M3 360mm two-piece rotors.

I also had a leaking master cylinder and the E31 cylinder is not available so I used an E32 25mm vs 26mm on 850. It bolted right on and seems to work fine. So with this brake upgrade I reduced weight approximately 8 pounds per corner even though rotors are 36mm larger.

Brakes work extremely well now with maybe an inch of pedal travel if that much. I'm just using stock off-the-shelf Bosch pads.

I'm still interested in upgrading the rear brakes but I cannot seem to find any adapters available to use the large 4-pot Brembos and a rotor that will work with the emergency drum brakes. Ceika does have a kit if I cannot piece together one of my own.
