    RPMS Weird

HELP!! I have a 1999 323i and when the car gets to about 50mph and I press the gas to accelerate a little more but not enough to shift down, the rpms slowly drop and don't raise much more (between 2k-2.5k rpms) no matter how much I push the pedal down. When I press it enough to shift down to 4th the rpms go to about 3k but then drop to 2.7k-2.8k and then start to climb. It's bugging me so much and someone told me it's normal but I don't feel like it is. HELP!!

    Welcome to the forum!

Sounds like a pedal failure, however you will have to pull codes and post them up to be sure of it.

Do you have any lights on the dash? Also pull all codes and post them up, as each one will be a clue as to what has broken.

Okay I'll have to take it to mechanic to see codes. What part of the pedal do you think is doing this?? Do you think it could be the throttle body or throttle position sensor?

The TB on the M52TU has an electric stepper motor to open the throttle, there is not TPS in a sense. The throttle in this car is a "drive by wire" type, so there is no actual connection.

The other thing that comes to mind is the stepper motor is failing. Again codes will help with this as you car has over a dozen different computers.

Okay, someone told me on another forum it could be the transmission or tourque converter. I hope it's neither of those. Would the stepper motor be expensive to fix? I'll get codes asap

Depends if you go new or used. Speculation without any codes is exactly that, so let's wait for the codes to know for certain. Just make sure they scan all the computer DME; EGS; ABS/DSC; ect. At times there can be codes in one ECU that will affect others, but won't be stored there. Ever word from the code is important, so either get a screenshot or write everything down.

For example a MAF code can be stored in the EGS (Transmission ECU) but not in the DME.

Okay I will make sure I do all that. BMW's are very complicated haha. I'll get back to you on the codes. Thanks again!
