Recently I traded my broken truck to one of my buddies. I wound up with this E46 with no engine.
The cool thing is it came with some goodies. Included with the car was a Collins adapter and motor mounts to drop in a JZ engine. It had one in already but he pulled it and sold it after just a few months because he couldn't figure out why it wasn't making power. First things first I had to pick up an engine. One of my other buddies happen to have a 2jzge sitting around with turbo manifolds, and he even found me the rear sump pan.
I got it home, cleaned it up a bit and started bolting stuff to it.
And I'm pretty much ready to drop it in the car.
I am planning on making this a quick project. I still need to pick up turbo stuff but I placed my order for my MS3X to tell this 2j what to do.
"quick project" - Orders a DIY ECU for a custom motor swap.
Is your last name foose?

I've installed about a dozen Megasquirts. None of them except 1 went easily. And even that one wound up being a lucky resolution.

That's exciting stuff Nic!! Any chance you think you might have this thing ready to blast by April 30th?

The whole 2JZ-GE thing is pretty interesting, they are CHEAP! Are you going to put a china intake manifold on it?
Excellent!! How much exhaust are you thinking you'll put on it? Streetable tameness, or let 'er scream?
Awesome. Do you have engine mounts yet?
instagram @andyitslit
He says they were included with the car unless I misread.
Yeah they were included. The guy I got the car from already had his 1j in it.
And just like that this bimmer is having an identity crisis...
Everything fits good except the wastegate flange is hitting the motor mount. I still gotta put the intake on to see if it wants to fit.

I just can't believe how small these straight up engines look in bimmer engine bays... SOOOO SICK!
Gonna tear out the ABS garbage before you put an intake on it?
The E46 is a very generous engine bay.

That pains me deeply Nic.
Lol
I was pretty sure the ABS module fed off the main DME. If that's gone, won't the whole ABS system stop working? That whole ABS unit thing irks me so bad. It takes up SO much space and has a damn ECU in it too <_< WHY!

This is possible I suppose. I haven't done a whole lot with e46s so I guess I don't know if the main DME feeds the abs. I know in past models there was a separate module for the abs. Either way, if it works it works, if not oh well, I'm not going through all the work to pull the unit out.
Well, it's not like you need the room in the engine bay Nic, looks like there's plenty.
Sean at SLR told me that the e46 chassis is basically like an e36 split down the middle and widened 60mm. 2 3/8" extra width in there would be pretty nice for sure, my e36 already has pretty reasonable underhood space.
I can't wait to see this sucker in person!
Wow Nic, you're fast! I'm barely farther than that, and I've had mine for over a year.
Well, probably to be accurate, you're fast, and I'm super slow.
I'm having flash backs.
