February update?

I'm looking into S54 swapping an E36 M3 I recently acquired and while I lack the proficiency to blaze the trail myself, I may be able to lend a machete to someone who can...
I have an S54-swapped Z3 2.8 coupe with a Z3M cluster in it (also: Z3M > E46 M3 cluster, all day). Thanks to Abel (I don't intend to take credit just wanted to share), we have done a fair amount of experimenting and may have some idea for an alternate solution
None of what I'm about to say is 100%. But with that being said...
Later year Z3 clusters were all canbus driven. There is a coding option in the cluster for engine, M54 2.5, M54 3.0, S54
The working theory is that we can set a non-M Z3 facelift cluster to "S54", install an S54 gauge face and have it function as an S54 cluster
If this is a viable option, surely someone can get some custom gauge faces made? $100 for a gauge face + $150 for a cluster surely beats the cost of a Z3M cluster
I am waffling on ordering an S54 for my own build but will definitely experiment with this option if I do. I also have in my possession a facelift Z3 non-M cluster. And a Z3 S54 gauge face. The only thing I am not confident of is the physical gauge face replacement - replacing needles spooks me out. I may outsource that step but this is something I will likely try.
Maybe it is something others can look into and experiment with in the meantime as well if this E46 cluster swap has fizzled out

I wonder if the folks at Bavarian Restorations can help with the custom gauge face.

S54 swap CSL
GP, I commend you for your effort and tenacity. I have an 1995 325is inheriting the guts of my e46 m3. I have the luxury of using every last bit of my old 4 wheeled girlfriends harness. Please update with progress as I will be in line to procure your board to ensure my swap is tastefully done.
I really hope GP the wizard is still working on this, it almost seemed like the coolest part about the swap
Bump. I recently picked up a complete donor car and would really like to use the E46M cluster. Hope there is an update this decade!
I like this thread.
If there's a bolt in solution, count me in. I am currently running a Euro Canadian cluster and i'll go for a bolt in solution. Or bolt in + coding + physical modification
Very interesting, hopefully this will become available as I'm very interested as others now and in the future. there is very little talk about this cluster swap. Details like these are rare as is the capability to produce them. S54b32 are becoming more available and people like to create the proper e36 m3 this way. You're project is essential the swap and buyers are ready. Thank you for all your work
Would love this also hoping the op continues with this!

Hi mate, I've made an account to respond to this post and can't seem to find any direct message function so I'll post on here, don't suppose you'd be able to explain how you went about using potentiometers to display the correct fuel level on e46 clocks? Currently doing a 330D swap and the e46 level sensors and fuel pumps wouldn't fit the e36 fuel tank. Have you got any other way I can contact you without having to post on the comments of this forum thread?
