I'm interested in this as well as I'm also doing a S54 swap. But its in a 1994 318is with no ASC. Wanna see what the few possible options are.

Are there any advantages to the E46 cluster as far as getting the OBD II plug up and running for emissions purposes?

You don't need the cluster (or my CAN board) to have a functional OBD2 connector. You will need either for a functional CEL and to provide the proper CAN messages that will allow the evap monitor to set (if the DMTL pump is installed).

    Edit:

Just read this thread from start to finish. Count me in for the e46 cluster conversion.

Yea, I have a feeling the cluster conversion will be more popular than my CAN boards, at least for the E36.

It will be a bit more work & cost in terms of buying/fitting the cluster and adjusting the mileage. I may offer a service to adjust mileage but it would be easier to buy a cluster with lower mileage than desired and use the conversion board to "drive" the cluster at a calculated speed & interval to bring it up to where you want.

So this might be a dumb question as I've been interested in this since the first day I saw it? I would want this in my 95m. Should I buy a e46 m cluster in the mean time to convert it over or ?

Have you swapped a S54? I'm working on a solution to make the E46 M3 cluster work in an E36 with a swapped S54.

I'm also interested in this as a possible way to deal with not being able to source a replacement S54 Z3M coupe cluster, since it's sort of an S54-swapped E36 with some left-over E30 parts...

Gotcha. I honestly just wanted the cluster in my e36. I have a separate e36 looks like is going to now get a s54. On to the classifieds!

    Working on it again today.

I'm probably going to rely on the ABS/ASC/DSC (whichever is installed) to drive the speedo. The diff sensor output is electrically compatible but the frequency is not. It may be possible to re-code the cluster but I'm taking the easier route for now.

I just started the car with the cluster connected. Things worked as expected but I still have to run a few wires and finish some programming. I'll post pictures as I make more progress.

YES!!! way to go, good work

question, is this going to be something we need to send in our clusters to you to do or is this more like a "how-to"?

Should be "how-to" unless you want your cluster mileage corrected. That can be DIY as well though.
