Will there be any difference between the bosch or moto meter units?

Not sure yet, I have a Bosch. Once I get it 100% done I'll probably pick up some other clusters for testing.

Minor update - I'm about to test cluster re-coding so that we can hopefully use the E36 speedo diff sensor (9 teeth/rev) instead of ABS output (48 teeth/rev) to drive the speedometer. If it doesn't work out I believe the E36 ABS/ASC output would still work by running an extra wire but can't test on my car as I retrofitted MK60 DSC.

Coding the E46 cluster to use the E36 diff speed sensor was a bust. They are electrically compatible but the values required for the cluster to read speed properly from a 9 tooth wheel (E36 diff) as opposed to a 48 tooth wheel (E46 & E36 ABS/DSC) is outside of the range that makes the cluster happy. This isn't a bug deal, just means running another wire so that the cluster gets speed from ABS instead of the diff.

What do people think about abandoning the E36 check control on the OBC when running an E46 cluster? The cluster pictogram would do it all with a few exceptions:

    working
    lamp monitoring
    low washer fluid
    low coolant
    outside temp

    not working
    brake light switch failure
status in individual doors/trunk open (would only be driver's side)

I'm going that route because it is more simple in some ways (low coolant/low washer fluid comes through CCM on E36), but things will get a little odd if you wanted the OBC and cluster CCM to work. Would get extra weird since I'm using the turn signal stalk OBC button with the E46 cluster.

I think the ones you have working are the most important anyways. I plan on eventually deleting the stock OBC and only using the E46 cluster features.

Will fuel mileage and range work?

Will outside temp work as well?

But really, what ever is easiest for you.

Also do you think there would be any reason why a European/Canadian spec km/h cluster wouldn't work? I've had my eye on one locally and want it bad.

It requires some trimming/sanding, hope to have pictures soon.

I actually took a short drive with the cluster connected yesterday and will be working on firmware a bit more today.

Would love to see those pictures. I'm in the planning stages of S54/MK60 swap into my E36 M3. I think the E46 cluster would be great to include, thanks for your updates!

    4 E36s, an E46 M3
Is there any updates on this? I am about to do an S54 swap into an E36 M3 and I have a complete E46 M3 to pull from. I would like to make it as "easy" to do, and by that, I mean, a little wiring to redo while keeping the look as stock as possible. I'm happy to pull the entire E46 M3 harness, basically.

The cluster is in the car and I'll be driving it that way from now on. It isn't shoved in the dash all the way or properly mounted as I'm still making software tweaks. Pictures coming soon.

What are the steps we can take to make it work?

I’d like to order an e46 m cluster and have it programmed by you if possible and if you’re willing.

    Required:

-physical mods to cluster so it will fit in the E36 dash
-adapter board that I'll soon be selling
-wires for CAN high/low from DME to cluster
-wire from ABS to cluster (for speedo)

    Optional:

-wires from IHKA & A/C pressure switch to adapter board (for A/C)
-wires from CCM to adapter board (for check control functions on cluster)
-wires from external temp sensor to adapter board
