    Nice!

Will it matter if my cluster is in canadian kilometers per hour and not mph?

A fair amount of grinding/sanding, I'll pull it back out and post a picture soon.

Yep, 100% functional, even MPG, the check control features, and outside temp display (I removed the OBC).

Physical cluster mods, basically some grinding/sanding:

Once that is done it fits with a bit of pressure. I haven't made mounting tabs because it is very solid as-is and kind of a pain to remove.

Any reason why the E46 turn stalk? BC input can be implemented with the e36 stalk.

Good eye! My original turn stalk didn't have the BC button so I was going to use one I had from an E39. Turns out it couldn't be used without additional circuitry. I just put an E36 stalk back on today.

excellent work GP... how long do you think it will be before we you start making the swaps... also would this mean we no longer need the CAN controller?

At least a few weeks. The prototype board I'm running doesn't connect to CAN at all. Most people will need to board to send a few CAN messages or else the cluster's ABS and DSC indicators would always be lit.

Yep - the cluster conversion board sends A/C messages to the cluster via k-bus and the cluster passes those messages to the DME via CAN.

This is super cool you've got this working, awesome job!

I have an SMG cluster out of a vert and I'm also installing the 6 speed trans from the donor car. Will the gear position indicator and roll over protection icon work as well?

I may have missed it, but, as far as the connections go, do you just re-pin the mating connectors from the e36 harness to the e46 cluster connectors or does the E36 harness plug into your adapter board and that then plugs into the cluster?

    Thanks again, awesome work!

The gear position indicator won't work, with a SMG there is nothing to tell it which gear is engaged. The roll over protection icon may be possible but I'd have to figure out what message to send to the cluster.

The adapter board will connect between the car and cluster and a few other wires will need to be run.

Welcome back. Did you thought of integrating the canbus Into the openobc project before starting this?

It uses a very powerful chip which should be able to do this no problem.

Hadn't thought about it since I have no OBC in my car and my E46 cluster now has check control, range, and MPG functioning.

I'm not going to make (and break) any promises, but I started work on this again today now that my car has sold and a few other things have calmed down a bit. Once the PCB design is done it will take 2 weeks to get a batch of boards and I can begin bench testing.
