OK I know. You don't put cheap tires on a nice 540i. But here's the deal. My 540 is in need of a suspension refresh. Its not bad its just that it has 99,000 miles and its just time for a refresh. As I started ordering parts my rear passenger tire shredded. The inside of the tire came apart and it looked as if it had been cut around its circumference. Upon closer inspection I realized that all tires needed replacement. They appeared fine, however it seems the PO didn't really drive the car much and the tires were kind of dry and not very pliable, if that makes sense. Shortly after that my clutch decided it was time to slip so I am focusing my priorities and money to the clutch issue.
But I still need tires. Not wanting to put nice tires on a worn suspension I opted for the cheap route. I purchased four Achilles ATR and had my friend install for free on staggered style 65 M5 rims. I admit I am shamelessly pleased with these tires (so far). I am no expert, I don't track my car and rarely ever drive it in the rain so my opinion and observations are based on a very limited and bland type of driving. Occasionally I will do some spirited driving, smoke the tires, chirp second gear, red light to red light, and some top speed personal challenges kind of driving, like most here, right? they look very decent, seem to have adequate grip for my driving style and I paid $66.00 per tire + $88.00 shipping. I think they are made in Indonesia, and if that didn't scare me, nothing else will.
Once I finish the suspension I will get some good, name brand expensive tires. I promise (maybe).
Guys I promise I will not turn my 540 into a guinea pig for cheap parts, but $66.00?? c'mon. I had to try.
Thanks for all the help. I will drive the treads off these things and will keep updating.

How are you liking the tires?
I've got those on my '99 528iT. They're as good as you can hope from a budget tire.
Seems that a $60k car deserves better than a $250 set of tires.
