I replaced my ccv and valve cover gasket set about a year ago 2005 bmw x5 3.0 and noticed oil consumption and smell. i looked and saw oil leaking down onto heat shield, rear of valve cover which then drips onto O2 sensor and manifold causing the smell. The valve cover gasket set was replaced along with all ccv components. I have noticed some of the creamy light substance on the underside of oil cap and bottom of dipstick. When i took off the plastic bmw cover, i observed quite a bit of oil around the back two coil pack tubes which has a pattern running down to where i saw the o2 sensor wet and heat shields. it looks like either the back two donut seals in the middle of the valve cover or a possible crack around that area where the donut seals and bolts are. any ideas how to trouble shoot this? The valve cover is probably cracked, if you cant see it a intake smoke check might reveal it
whats the best way to smoke test it?
