changes to BMW AWD system?

Fell in love with a 06 330i MT after a test drive in 08, but couldn't make the right deal.

Wound up with an 07 328xi MT, which was an excellent business and high speed touring car but compared to the 330i is was a heavy pushing pig in the handling department.

We'll probably get a 3 series or an Audi A4 in the spring.

All one can find on the lots around here are Xdrives

My question is - has the BMW changed its AWD system since 07 to make it less intrusive to the driving fun?

I'm falling in love with the idea of a 340i Xdrive stick but am apprehensive

inputs/experiences appreciated

I don't believe there have been any major changes to the x drive system - the system just adds a lot of weight to the car, not much you can do about that.
