1995 Touring - What is This Plug?

    Need the team's help here...

The previous owner moved the ASC switch/button to up next to the fog light switch (they don't work either...). Now the plug pictured below comes out of the former ASC housing. Can someone tell me what this is for? RealOEM and BMWofSouthAtlanta show it as either miscellaneous or brake light related. I am getting the Brake Light Circuit warning, but not sure if that's a bad switch or this unfulfilled plug.

    BMW Part number 61131378134

    Help me out!

    Thanks

It's not for anything. There are hundreds of unused connectors on every BMW. The fact that you happened to discover one of them has nothing to do with your brake light error.

You are getting the brake light circuit warning because just like any other touring, the hatch wiring needs attention

Maybe, but the brake lights are not in the hatch.

My brake light warning was cured by a new brake pedal switch (after about 5 years of ignoring the message). It's a common problem on E34s.

Yes - I've already ordered an OEM brake light switch since I've read some aftermarkets will not cure the warning light.

Possibly related, I have no interior lights on opening the door, so I may pull apart the dash to look for an open plug for this. Also, no lights to climate control when headlights are on...

How on earth could that be possibly related? Before you take apart the dash, are you sure they're switched on? If so, the switch itself (on the light) is likely the problem. Try the other doors and the other lights (map lights beside the main one have their own switches).

The bulb is out in your climate control.
