1998 323i. all auto vert. I can get the top down and in place manually, but how can i get the boot cover to be locked manually? I plan to keep it locked down permanently and in storage. Any help is greatly appreciated!!
It's this cabling system. More and more people are taking their tops to full manual. I sell allot of these to convert but I have not at this moment.

As for the top itself you would have to convert to a "handle top" (semi of full manual) top with the handle.
There a couple of ways to accomplish this:
Do the manual latch conversion, which is easy to do with the right parts: manual latches, cables, and inside handle that goes above the arm rest for the drivers side rear passenger. There are several write ups I used when I did mine.
While I was waiting for the money/parts/time to get mine converted to full manual I manually disengaged the motor in the trunk (its the one in the fender on the drivers side) then re-engaged it once the top was stowed and using the top re-synch procedure to get the boot cover down. (Hold the top button down, the turn the key to the "on" position and wait about 10 seconds for the boot cover to get pulled down).
If you look at the boot cover motor, you will see where the two cables that go to the latches hook to it. All that is needed to hold the boot cover down is tension on those cables (play with them with the motor disengaged and you will see what I mean). If you root around you will find ways others have invented to kerp those cables tight.
Hope this helps
