just found the left outer cv boot on the new-to-me 2002 325xi has barely split (only 1/8" long so far) and have been reading about replacement. Seems a lot of work.
I recall that on my E30 when the outer boot split, I was able to get the stub axle out of the hub with the axle still attached, and replace in situ. Can it be confirmed that this can't be done with the E46?
Confirm also the stub axle needs major force to push back through the hub? I have a BFH and 3/4" brass bar...
TIA
Charlie
Your mission, should you decide to accept it, is to add value to these threads, either by pictures or by descriptions, so the next person with the same or similar problem stands on your shoulders.
Like the rears, you will need a brass drift and a BFH to "Help" it out. Now the system is based on the E-50 X-5, but they are similar to the E-30's as the half shaft goes thru the oil pan on the passenger side. Do you plan on replacing the boot, or going for a rebuild?
