I bought a cheap 92 525i manual for parts but I want to be able to drive it for a while before I need to harvest its organs. The ignition works fine but when I take the key out the "key in ignition" light stays on. I don't really care except the light eventually kills the battery. Any way I can defeat that function?
Might try spraying some lubricant into the iggy switch, the lever that controls the light is not releasing with the key out. Mine stays on for a few seconds after I pull the key then stops.

The switch is on the opposite side of the column from the key lock. The contact for the "key in" is external and visible on the back of the switch, pretty sure it is a blue/wht wire to that terminal. The contact is spring loaded, normally open with key out. Key in closes the contact, grounding that wire.

If you can leave two black stripes from the exit of one corner to the braking zone of the next, you have enough horsepower. - Mark Donohue
The door switches should instruct the CCM to turn off the warning once the door is shut. Pretty sure that's what mine does since I never remove the key when the car is garaged.

I haven't gotten around to fixing this but I have noticed I cannot lock the car from the outside. None of the locks will physically move when I try to turn them with the key. Could this be related as a way to keep people from locking keys in their car?
