Our '99 BMW 528i had an issue with the MDK/ECU. After replacing the Throttle Body (MDK) and not solving the problem, I sent the ECU (along with the EWS & key) to a reputable ECU Repair company be tested and repaired. It turned out the ECU's "Comparator" circuit was defective and not repairable. They sent me a rebuilt unit that was paired with my EWS. After installation of the rebuilt ECU, the car cranked and ran fine.
I then decided to check out the idle roughness with my INPA System. That's when I ran into a problem. INPA could not find the MS42 ECU. I was able to review the "Coding Data Screen " and found that the module name, along with other data was missing. (See attached screen shots).
How can I go about restoring this data to the ECU?

Flash ECU with WinKFP program (part of the INPA packs) and it will write that data again to the UIF.
WinKFP (with proper daten loaded, config must have "write UIF data" checkboxes checked) > Comfort mode > Enter ZUSB > Type 7526759 (newest MS42 for 528i, click OK) > Enter VIN (enter whole vin, click OK) > Back > Program.
Then click the OKs and let it program.
Make sure you have good battery life and it will take up to 10 minutes, do not let computer go to sleep. You may have to click OK to some popup windows during flash.

Thanks for the quick reply, I'll give WinKP a go this afternoon!

Shucks!!!
I got an error when attempting to enter "Enter ZUSB > Type 7526759" I got the following error message: "Assembly identification number not found in files determined by "xxkconf.da2"
I was able to update the VIN number however.
Any suggestions or work arounds?

Any suggestions?
Well, since this is the first time I have used the WinKP application and got the above error, I searched my laptop for a file named "xxkconf.da2." I did not find this file anywhere on my hard drive, so I guess that is the real issue. I obtained my software and cable for the Cable Shack. Do I need to locate configuration files somewhere else?
Thanks for any help on solving this problem.

I have preloaded all the MS42 flash files correctly here in my INPA pack http://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/sh...xperimentation

You can probably get away with just installing the "Load data" part of it.

Wow!!! That's a bunch of information. I will digest the thread and extract the data portion for my laptop.
Thanks a bunch.

I wanted to follow up with anyone following this post. With the help from 328 Power 04 and from Jimmy at the Cable Shack (www.cable-shack.co.uk), my issue was actually a bad installation of my diagnostic software.
After I got my diagnostic software fixed, I found my ECU repair vendor (www.ecudoctors.com) had faithfully cloned my original ECU. Now, I need to resolve my "roughness" issue being shown on my INPA screen.
Thanks again for your help.
